Monotone Matchup

A new round of Uber started a few days and this event is turning out to be one of my favorites for sophisticated clothing.  Ison, who presents his new Celestial set at Uber, is probably hands down my favorite designer - I cannot wait to see what he releases next.  His looks are always clean lines and impeccable tailoring, which is my preferred way to dress.  The outfit consists of a shirt, skirt and necklace, all which I'm showing today.  Because of the flair at the bottom of the shirt, it should be easy to wear with slim slacks or any trim skirt and I can see the skirt looking fantastic with a riding jacket.  Both the skirt and top are available in 5 different colors.  The Celestial Neck Piece is also available in Silver or Gold and makes a gold statement.  My hair is a recent release from Truth called Ivana. It's a cross between an updo and pigtails, which makes it really versatile.

7.18.2014: Getting my Feet Wet

Horrific real world events have nearly broken my heart so when I can tear myself away from the news, I decided to find a peaceful place to go to that I had not visited before.  So I picked Venice, which I assume right now is absolutely jammed packed with tourists.  I would gladly be one of them but I had Venice completely to myself, with clear water to boot!

Truth's latest release for women, Xantheanne, not only has a long name, but has a unique look thanks to the flattering braid in front.  It's long and lovely and maybe a bit mysterious.  Coquet has made the adorable Summer Fun dress for The Theme Park. It is a pretty little one shoulder number and is available in 5 bright colors for a bit of pop.  I jazzed it up a bit with pretty arm bracers from aisling for The Secret Affair.  This great gatcha contains very sparkling adornments with 3 rares, but I must say that even the commons are fantastic and include color change huds for a ton of options.

Be well <3

7.6.2014: Deep Thoughts

Hi there!  One of my little projects in SL is being one of the assistants for The Men's Dept.  I am most happy here when I am busy and I spend a lot of time on location at The Men's Dept. on the days leading up to it's opening.  I am so happy to be part of a well run event that features items for men.  Everything here is original content plus discounted from it's normal price.  And lots of designers include items for feminine avatars, which I love!
Set up was kind of slow this month because of it falling during Canada Day and Independence Day...or it felt like that to me and I got a little stir crazy hanging out so that I could be helpful to someone or at least maybe nag somebody.  And I started to feel like this, like the girl with the empty dancecard or the only person on the planet not running around with sparklers.  And had way too much time to brood.
I've been around SL for many years now and I debate off and on whether it's time for me to depart.  I know all of my friends who are also "oldbies" are pretty jaded, too, but many of them continue to log on to create, blog, run events, etc.  Most of them "do" something in SL, though I wonder what keeps us here, complaining about lag and big body parts, while other people eventually move on.
I love Eden, my avatar.  She is my first avatar and has always been my favorite.  With the recent talk of SL "closing down" I wonder what will happen to poor Eden if it does actually happen. Will our avatars be waiting for us like waiting for an event to open or will they finally be free to be themselves? And now, with clothes just starting to get really good!

Photos taken at TMD at junk's lil booth.  The following items I'm wearing are featured at the July round of TMD:
Shirt: TonkTastic: Commando Sweater (for women):  Tonktastic is a new designer for TMD and is offering this fantastic fitted mesh shirt for women.  Each shirt contains a HUD so that you can change shirt textures as well as the patches on the arms.  You can even add a nameplate so that you can add your name or something funny.
Pants: Deadwool: Joad Pants - Desert: These pants were made for men but I am wearing them in the same size as I do mesh item's for women.  They are sublimely made, as is anything that comes from Deadwool.
Shoes: Milk Motion: Double-Strapped Sandals - Marie Lauridsen of Milk is offering these fabulous sandals for both men's and women's Slink Bare feet. You get to chose from 15 different textures, patterns and solids, and they are as comfortable as my RL sandals, ftw.

6.9.2014: Essential Summer Outfit

I saw this dress in green on my friend, Qopi, and I just knew I had to have it. The Wyeth Dress is from Deadwool and it certainly does remind me of the dress worn in the painting, Christina's World, from American Painter, Andrew Wyeth.  It's a shortened version of the very classic shirtwaist dress and I love it for it's timelessness.  The Cutout Sandals are from Le Primatif and I just had to grab the navy pair!  I have a hard time finding really good navy's in SL and these were it.  Plus, I've been loving all the adorable sandals that are out this summer for Slink bare feet.  Both of these items are available at half price at the current round of The Chapter 4.

Truth just released his new Oceana hair for the newest round of Collabor88.  The theme for June's Collab round is Lighthouse, so the items have been inspired by things nautical.  The ribbon has several different textures available in solids and prints and runs through the braid for a bit of fun!

Fashion for Life 2014

Every year, many wonderful residents of Second Life™  ban together to organize various events to benefit the American Cancer Society. Fashion for Life is SL’s longest running, and most successful fashion fair. As a first time Fashion For Life blogger, I wanted to take a moment to explain what it's all about. FFL is in support of Relay For Life of Second Life. 100% of the money donated through Fashion For Life goes to the RFLofSL. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event. ACS has a global impact on the fight against cancer. You can read more about it here:  http://relayforlifeofsecondlife.org/our-global-impact-on-cancer/

Fashion For Life 2014 runs from June 7th til June 20th, and spans across 10 sims. This years theme is Wanderlust, which is a reflection of Relay For Life's theme, "Journey To A Promise". Over the 10 sims, you will find 150 stores, gacha areas and a region wide passport game. You can find more information about the fair at the following web site: http:/ffl.iheartsl.com.

Whereas the amazing builders for the event have laid out a nice pathway which connects all of the event sims together, you can use the following SLURLS to get started.

6.4.2014: Me & my JJ

If anyone noticed, I kind of did fall off the face of the planet there for a bit.  I have been sicker than I have been in years and am completing my first round of Cipro and starting to feel like myself again.  I apologize in the delays in blogging...and I was starting to get on a roll there.

This round of The Arcade is interesting; there are very few clothing items (I guess accessories and decorative items are more broadly appealing as a gacha item), but I was thrilled to see that Pixicat joined with this round and has made some stunning kimonos.  I am particularly in love with the patterned ones, especially this Koi one.  The kimonos are actually rompers so you can wear it alone and not show off parts you would rather not share.  The dragon on my shoulder is one of the rare items from the gacha and I just adore him.

Truth's Sakura hair for The Arcade is a ton of fun. You can win the style with either two buns or one in each color hud as well as with teddy bears, flowers, kokeshi dolls or sushi.  I am wearing the light blonde with sushi which is a rare and I was thrilled how well it worked with the kimono.  The skin is also from The Arcade; Glam Affair's Liv skin. There are a ton of those to collect this time with 3 skin tones and two skin styles.

Poses are from an lar's new set, The Modern Series, for the Fit for a Princess event!

Retro Dinin'

The new round at Collabor88 is all about retro. Like 50's diner retro. I happen to love the 50's. I wish I woulda been around in the 50's cuz everything looked so cool, but that's neither here nor there. Anyhoo. Retro stuff always makes for some really great photos, so when I landed and saw all this fab 50's diner stuff, it was ON! I decided to include the fabulous Eden and Kat for this shoot, so they could show off all their new goodies from our shopping trip. Plus, we needed a rest and a food break after all that shopping. - Except me. I didn't get to rest cuz I had to keep bringing Kat milkshakes. *sigh*

Floorplan and The Loft have some great sets available to fill up your home (or diner), which include the table & chairs, the lamps, the posters, and the cute stack of coke bottles & table accessories. My dress (I'm on the right) is by katat0nik, adoringly called the "Diner Dress". It comes in a variety of colors, and is all hand drawn. That store always has the cutest things! Eden (middle) is sporting the new dress from The Secret Store. There's several different patterns to choose from, and the style goes perfectly with the new shoes from Hucci! Kat (left) is looking all "bopper chic" in the skinny slacks from Tres Blah, which are a very versatile style, and topped it off with the cute knotted shirt from Teefy. Both are available in multiple colors, and are extremely cute!
All in all, we had a fab time grabbing up all these goodies. When the day was done, Eden and I wound up having to carry Kat away from the table though. I guess I shoulda cut her off before that last one. ;p

Until next time! :D

4.12.14 Ladyish

One thing I've learned to enjoy as I have gotten..ahem...older is playing up my feminine side.  If there was ever a time to indulge in this, it's now.  Two particular events this month are all about spring, Collabor88 and The Season's Story. Maitreya's Wrap Dress for Collabor88 is the ultimate lady dress with its flimsy, washed out floral pattern.  It is very body hugging and I find the lower neckline to be quite sexy to the point that I didn't want to alter it with a necklace.  Truth has a few hairs out right now that feature optional floral additions.  This style, Fleur, is available at The Season's Story, and include 4 different color flowers.  I am not good at completely playing it straight so I added the Eyebag from Pixicat, which was a store newly featured in 50 Linden Friday last week.  It is a gacha at 50L per play; I played long and hard and lucked out with one of the rare bags that includes all the colors as well as the spikes. All bags, even the commons, allow you to change the eye color and comes 3 ways: clutch, cross chest and side strap.  I loved all the shops on this little sim and enjoyed it immensely.  My pose is from an lar's Conventional Series, which is available at Depraved Nation's 100 Block Fashion Fair for 50% off!

4.4.14 Batdog takes over The Men's Dept.

TMD April 2014 Birdy Batdog et al_001

Birdy has turned me into one of those "doll carriers".  I'm not usually the type for those huggy things that get attached to your avatar but Birdy makes some of the most adorable mesh animals that I have joined the ranks.  Birdy is releasing the Batdog at The Men's Department for it's April round that begins on the 5th. This round marks the 2 year anniversary of The Men's Department and the designers for this round have really outdone themselves.  Many have also included a bonus gift with your purchase as a thank you to the support the event has been given. I grew up with Dachshunds and they are my favorite pup...all hound and still small enough to take everywhere so this was instant love for me.  The dog comes in 2 versions: one without the mask and one with and also includes a mask for your avatar so that you can be a badass duo avengers.  Truth's new Lagertha hair is perfect for the mask.  Make sure you wear a hairbase with this one as it does sit off your face.  I don't know what planet I've been orbiting but I was unaware that Truth released new hairbases for mesh hair.  You can find them in the color sample boxes scattered throughout the store.  I have not taken off Glam Affair's Sylvia skin in the Jamaica tone from Collabor88 for days now. I picked up a variety of lip colors and eye shadows which makes it a recommended pick. You can pick it up for a few more minutes at C88.

3.11.2014: Never Ever Ever Shop with Lucie Bluebird

So I was at The Skin Fair preview for bloggers, shopping and minding my own business, when I refocused my cam and there was darling Lucie Bluebird invading my personal space.  Skin Fair 2014 starts on the 14th of this month so I was in a bit of a rush as there are 3 sims full of fantastic skins and all the stuffs that go with it. Lucie is one of the sweetest women I've met in SL; the kind we hold dear: loyal, funny, super well-mannered, housebroken and a completely adorable avatar. I am quite introverted but Lucie and I know that we both love to shop and lately when we run into each other it's generally when we are feeding our shopping addiction.  I should have logged off the moment I saw her as we ended up both fatpacking 2 new skinlines at the preview.

"You look so ethereal", says Lucie when I demoed League's new Erin skin, which is a Skin Fair 2013 exclusive.  Heck, that is not usually how I'm described so I was sold as soon as she said that.  What I love about the new Erin is that it has strong definition without becoming cartoonish.  It had been awhile since I had laid down L's for a new skinline (I've been picking up this and that at events and The Arcade) and they will be L's well spent. The skins come with everything: bust enhancers/dehancers, hairbases, brow/or no brow, different brow colors and 2 different bustlines. It does not include appliers but they can be purchased for a reasonable price at League's mainstore.

In a shameless attempt to be ethereal and cute, I chose Truth's new release for the March round of Collabor88.  He is now a permanent designer for the event so we can all look forward to even more gorgeous hairs!
Save your L's because you will need them for skin fair.  For more previews the official Skin Fair 2014 flickr group has pages of them and everything you will need to know about the fair is on it's website.

3.5.14: The Men's Dept. and other newnesses!

The March 2014 round of The Men's Dept. opened today. One of my favorite events, though I am not a male in SL or RL, but I have a penchant for clean lines and menswear so watching this collection come together every month is one of my joys.  Mikel Monk, the talented organizer (don't tell him I said that) of TMD, has been at this now for 2 years and he has really brought together a wonderful set of designers.
I have a few fetishes in SL.  Three of them are chairs, lighting and stuff that looks like store fixtures.  I was able to indulge them all at TMD this month with Theosophy's new Denim Trois Chairs that are available in 3 colors (I am so happy to see you back around, Trace), Oyasumi's workchair with it's awesome industrial lines (other pieces also available) and Mudhoney's Benson Chair (part of a larger set that also includes the rug and mirrors shown), which also has a clean design reminiscent of van der Rohe's Barcelona chair. BBQQ is offering the very handsome Clothing Rack V6, which has most excellent worn wood and metal textures.  Last but not least, my sweet buddy, Andel Rhiadra, of ADD Andel, makes her TMD debut with very versitile Retro Hanging Lamp, which she made all by her little marvelous self, painstakingly deciding on textures that she thought would have a masculine edge.  There is love in this stuff, I tell you.
My clothing is also pure dood but I managed to feminize it with gold touches of prettiness from Hucci and Mandala.  I have stalked Ison's clothing since forever and and am overjoyed they are participating in TMD.  Ison is offering the Leather Biker Vest (that includes the shirts, yay). It comes in many colors but my RL brother is Mr. Harley so it's de rigueur that I wear black.  Not so bad's James pants are a dream. I'm not usally a sagger but I totally dig these narrow hipped pants.  You will have to remove your phatazz to properly enjoy them. Even the Song Sublime eyes are available at TMD (I am wearing the Cold tone). Finishing off the look is Truth's new Perla hair and Glam Affair's sumptuous Aria skin, which is currently yours to win at The Arcade.  It includes a ton of appliers too, so I am all over it! Kat Valeska, blogging queen and darn great pose maker, has updated some of her poses which you can now find at her new inworld store.  Kat knows blogging and I appreciate the care she gives to stance in her poses.  No wonky hiding parts!

I am going to start dating my posts because I'm tapped out of ideas lately

I hope everyone who celebrates the Christmas holiday had a safe and happy one.  I live in a cold climate and as I get older I have really come to love the beauty of winter.  The Trace at The Celestial Realm is the most gorgeously landscaped sim and it has become a favorite place for photos (you can even rez there!).

I was excited to get out of red/green clothes; it's not really a favorite combination for me, probably because my schoolteacher mother is the most festive person on the planet and had outfits and various regalia for just about any holiday. Even in SL I tend to grab black so lately I've tried to be more expansive and I'm liking the results. Azure Electricteeth of Tee*fy is someone who really knows her colors and I love the combinations she is offering at this months Collabor88.
Speaking of Collabor88, Miss Cory Edo has recently put her December release for the event out for sale and it is nothing short of a STEAL at L$ 88.  This seems to be some kind of penitence she is forcing upon herself for not being on time for once in her life as she is such a consistent and high quality creator. The Willoughby Lakehouse is a gorgeous farmhouse with touches of Gothic Revival to give it special character. It comes in 2 different colors; I'm showing the "warm" version here as I love the trim combination.
The home includes a snow add-on for the roof (that I forgot to put on) and has a control system for lighting, windows and doors.  It weighs on with a LI of 119 (10 more if you remember to add the snow).  I am a sucker for houses (though I spend my time on a platform) and this one is a definite keeper.

DU! No, U!

This is how I feel when there is a Designer's United event!  Honestly, I adore this event and I have waited YEARS for it to return.  A fashionista's dream it is...highly skilled designers creating exclusive one-of-a-kind items that I treasure forever in my own special overflowing SL museum called Inventory.  This is why I can't leave SL.  Think what could happen!  The theme of the event this time is Surrealism so don't be looking for basic tube dresses here...they will not be found. Many Lindens were spread among many designers today and they deserve it because the one sad thing about exclusive is that; they can't ever sell the items again.  Today I am wearing So Many Styles Son of Man Coat, which I adore for it's tweedy vintage coat ala housedress style. Was so hard to limit myself to one!  The freakishly amazing and yet really cool shoes are from HANDverk, who really didn't need to have a theme to make weird things because that is what Daphne Klossvsky is..strange and how I love her for it. Oh also, the shoes can be purchased as a Slink med feet add-on or regular Linden feetage types.  I am wearing the regular shoes because Appy needs to come back and make all her socks for mesh feets.
Also, joy upon joy, Glam Affair released a new group gift today.  I wear GA skins almost exclusively and well the new Angelica with bright happy eyes was like so perfect for this outfit it defies belief.  I know!

Color Challenge: Deep Pink

Jacqui should really be around for this one because she is definitely the pink girl of the Crybabies but I'm no slack when it comes to the color.  I didn't need to dig far to find the color in my inventory as I had just hit the Mesh Me Up sale at Purple Moon, where all of the new items in the mesh collection are just L$59.  We've all seen plenty of tube and balloon mesh dresses by now but this one has wonderful pleating that reminds me of some of my favorite non-mesh MichMi dresses.  It's chic and elegant and and comes in satins (solids and gradients) and leathers for the sale, which runs through the 20th.  The Cachet shoes are one of my favorite newer releases from Baby Monkey.  Pixieplumb Flanagan finds a wide selection of her shoes for each weeks color challenge and offers a 50% discount to group members.  The group is usually 250 to join but every month she offers a free-join weekend and as of this moment it is free to join (and she is not online to change it) so if you hurry you can get in for free! Je Suis' short Aimee necklace works perfectly with the dress and since so many of her items are color change it was easy to make matchy.

Culture Shock: Orion / Di's Opera / Mango Mango

First off, my apologies for the blogging gap, but several RL obligations have kept me from doing much on SL this week besides checking messages and sorting out a few things.  Right now there are so many events going on, many being fundraisers for awesome charities, that it is difficult to decide where to go first.  Both Skin Fair and Culture Shock will be ending on May 22nd so if you've not made it to either, now is a great time to go.

Orion Gant of Orion does great things with sculpts in his clothing and I've picked up many pieces over time.  He has 3 items where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders as well as a new dress that is one of my favorites.
Summer Flowers comes in four colors with a dramatic sculpted skirt and floral trim on top.  The sculpts are modify and copy so you can adjust it to fit your personal shape.  Sileny Noel, of Mango Mango, has the lovely Vintage Sweetie skin available at Culture Shock and it was perfect for the clean retro look I was going for with Orion's clothes.  It is available in five skin tones.
Sileny has included many options in each skin pack.  I love her freckles but it also includes a non-freckled version as well as cleavage and various brow options.  She also made a full body freckle tattoo layer that I just love and you can pick up at Culture Shock.
I've way too many leggings (and skin and hair and shoes and dresses and poses and houses, etc.) and I've been starting to thin them out but the Zebra leggings from Orion are becoming fast favorites for me.  I really like the shading on them with adds to their realism.  The sculpted bottoms include both a copy/mod version and a resize scripted pair so that you can fuss with them to get them just right.  I've been completely gonzo for Di's Opera's Old Luggage set, also at Culture Shock.  There are three different bags as well as special poses (one shown above) included in the set.   It my latest fix for pixelated retro items.
One of my friends calls this my Bo-Peep dress but I've also been called Florence Henderson and Bea Arthur and I adore the Arienette 2 Dress. The Custard version above is exclusive to Culture Shock and I love it because I could play this dress so many different ways.  It could easily get myself up like campy Bo-Peep or grunge it up with heavy boots and messy hair, but I'm not going for Look of the Day here. I want you to see the hard work Orion put into the sculpts on this dress. Again, its modifiable for your fitting needs.

I need to get back to Culture Shock and get another good luck before all the wonderful exclusive items are gone after May 22.  For a map and complete list of store locations visit here.

Fashion For Life: Mystic Sky

My dear friend, Skyler John, owner of Mystic Sky, is back for her second year at FFL.  This year she has 3 gorgeous items in her charity vendors.  Skyler makes gorgeous gowns, many of them perfect for medieval and fantasy RP.  All of these items are available at her store on the Arbus sim, which is sponsored by Evie's Closet and 100 % of the proceeds from these vendors benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS).

First off is my personal favorite, the Belladonna gown in Teal.  The Belladonna has a wonderful sculpted bustle and high lace collar.  It comes with a black collar but I could not help adding a modern flair with one of the amazing Cassandra neckpieces from the gacha from Purple Moon Designs.  All proceeds from the gachas at FFL also benefit the ACS so go indulge your addiction!
The Cherish Gown in Ruby is the second charity item offered by Mystic Sky.  What I love about her medieval gowns is I feel like I'm in an old Disney animated film, which was big stuff when I was a girl.  This gown has a perfectly textured braided belt and a rich cloak.  I didn't get a shot of the back but it dips in the back for a bit of extra sensuality.  Skyler is very sensitive to details like that in all her work.
The third charity offering for FFL is the adorable Loralee Fae in White.  Organic is the word I associate with this darling outfit.  It is not sparkly or fake but what I associate with what a real fairy might wear.  The leaf wings are animated to gently flutter and the skirt and top are held together by delicate metalwork.
Skyer also has a male outfit available as a FFL vender.  I completely forgot to get out my "Malt" to take photos so I will update soon with pictures.  It's very masculine and black and leathery.  Tomorrow, I promise!
