Handverk: Love You Long Time

The creators over at [HANDverk] just keep cranking out the most amazing things.  Daphne Klossovsky, who primarily makes the things over thar that you wear on your bod has come out with another amazing pair of shoes of this month's Zodiac event.  I had loved her Leo shoes for the event last month and has delighted me this month with the "virginal" Rump Pumps.  They are fully mesh and completely hand made, as are all of their products.  You get two pairs with your purchase, both non-rigged and one is resize scripted.  If you are interested in more [HANDverk] exclusives, make sure you check out August's FaMESHed event for the Tassel Jewelry Set, which you can purchase separately or as a set with earrings and necklace.  They come in silver and gold versions and several different vivid colors to chose from.  Vintage Fair has gone on for most of the month and there are still several more days to go.  My fun 2 piece is from Faster Pussycat.  The top is sculpted for that structured retro look.  Wasabi Pills Gloria Mesh hair is lovely and works for all kinds of looks.  Make sure to check out the skins at GOLA.  They are so much fun and are reminiscent of memorable books from the "antique" era.
Just a few FYI's.  [HANDverk] has relocated so update your landmarks.  The items here are not at the store yet but you can find their entire legacy collection, which is all just stunning.  Vintage Fair runs thru the 29th and the landing points have been removed so you can hop directly to any of the stores, all of which are conveniently located on the Chic Management website.

Vintage Fair: Camelot

Just a quick post for a busy Saturday.  Purple Moon is one of my favorite stores and I adore the gorgeous Jackie mesh skirt and vest, especially in this great houndstooth texture. The late Jackie Kennedy has always been one of the arbiters of fashion and I poked through some of my things from Vintage Fair and put together a nice facsimile.  MAdesigns  has several gorgeous, high-fashion hair styles at the fair and Ruby worked out perfectly.  Eclectica has some fabulous shades at the fair.  This particular style, 50's Glasses: Scrolls and Pearls are infinitely versatile as you can change each element: frames, lens, scrollwork and pearls individually for texture, shine and tint.  They are also resizable, all with a simple touch.  I love the Rose skin from Shine.  It's a nice clean skin with a pretty glow and is available in several lip colors and includes 3 cleavage styles, freckles and 2 styles of teeth.

Vintage Fair runs until August 29th for many more lovely days of shopping!  The slurls for all the stores in this post can be found on the Chic Management webpage.  Now who will I be next time?

Vintage Fair: Fun in the Days of Consumption

I'm having a riot with some of my finds from Vintage Fair.  This year the fair allowed "antique" items into the fair, which are considered items pre-1920's.  My darling pal, Hempy Weezles, took a few shots with me in her fair ensemble but she has ill family members so I will update with her info and maybe a closeup shot when I can catch her.  I loved one of Shabby Chic's outfits.  Jordanna Hamaski of Shabby Chic has been around as long as I can remember and has always stayed true to her genre with this brand with vintage clothing, textures, and laces. My outfit (I'm the pale, sickly one) is from shabby chic and is a brilliant combination of sculpts, mesh and system layers.
The outfit includes a long skirt which you can see above and below but I love the bloomers, which match the mesh corset that has been embellished with laces and buttons.  I love how mesh just moves with the avatar and you can see how naturally the corset flexes in my pose above.  I accented the outfit with shoes and earrings from Bliensen + MaiTai.  The Shimmy-Sha-Wobble shoes come in a number of beautifully textured colors and are perfect for all kinds of vintage looks.  The Lilo earrings come in a number of colors and each color set includes 3 different metal textures.  I have to do a jewelry post soon because there is just so much jewelry that needs to be seen close up to appreciate.  The Adorable hair, another really nice style from Tuty's, features an attached updo and works great on it's own or with a hat.
Timelines had some of the nicest "antique"/early 20th Century accessories I saw at the fair...things that I didn't even have in my burgeoning inventory.  The delicate dress watch was a necessity for fashionable women since we didn't have our androids beeping all the date we could have needed.  (Even when I was growing up you needed a watch to function much as you need a cell phone now.)  The gorgeous Victorian Riding Topper is all decked out with bows, laces, feathers and a cameo jewel and is resize scripted.  It's just such a well made piece.  My skin is from GOLA, who had some of the most interesting skins at the fair.  Im wearing the Alice in Wonderland skin which was one of the more subdued, but was perfect for the very stark, almost sickly look I was going for.  I mean sickly in only the nicest way. The face is highly detailed and very unique.

Vintage Fair continues to run thru the 29th of August and is 3 gorgeous sims full of shopping pleasure. Please refer to the Vintage Fair map/slurl page for all items from the fair.  The rest will be slurls to the stores.

Vintage Fair: The L'Ook

I've got lots more head-to-toe Vintage Fair looks to show off.  There are so many awesome items I'm having a dreadful time narrowing down my looks, but I have to remember it's one photo at a time.  Hand me the world's smallest tissue and let's get on with this.  I will talk more about the look above but I want to show you the most wonderful prop you can pick up exclusively at Vintage Fair.  It is called the L'Ookbook Boutique Prop and it is set as a small shopfront with bay windows.  The poses are especially made for the prop and include poses both in the doorway of the shop and in the store window.
I took a quick shot of the prop to give you an idea of how it's laid out. I added the platform/black wall, lamps and furniture just to goof off but you can see that it's pretty spiffy and a worthwhile investment if you blog or enjoy taking fashion photos.

Getting back to clothes and such...I am a huge fan of Ingenue!  I remember at last year's Vintage Fair mesh was still in it's very early stages and few designers had invested a lot into adding it to their lines.  But Betty Doyle, an amazing designer and I'm guessing a perfectionist, dived right into it and had full sets of personally created mesh outfits.  I think pretty much all of Ingenue's work now includes some elements of mesh and in my opinion is of the top 10 masters of the craft.  As always, her textures are exquisite, the clothes fit exactly as they should and have such range.  The Lauren skirt I'm wearing is a perfect example of that.  It has that a vintage fair but is infinitely flexible, so you can dress straight period or incorporate it into more modern ensembles. I've never regretted any purchase I've made from Ingenue and my collection is vast.  LeeZu is another brand that has made some amazing mesh outfits but I find the prim sculpts to be brilliant with the jacket, Yriin, to be a stunning example of that.  It's elegant and edgy yet easily wearable, which are adjectives I associate with the LeeZu brand.  I love avante garde but frankly, when I want to look put together and go shopping, that is not the look I tend to grab.  Slink is offering these fabulous kitten-esque heels at Vintage Fair.  These are not just shoes!  These are mesh shoes with separate mesh feet!  The feet are sized in standard size equivalents so that they are proportional to other parts of the shape that meet these standards.  They include a hud for both the nails on the bare feet as well as another hud for skin tinting and nail polishes.  If you go back up to the first photo you can better see the lovely hair from Vanity Hair, The Hamptons, which includes a color change hair band.  I love this style for it's casual refinement and Tabata Jewell's wonderful hair textures.  Lastly, and I hope to show more of this amazing collection is Eclectica's Nouveau Leaves set.  This gorgeous set includes the items I am wearing plus a tiara, brooch, and hair pins, all of which are controlled by a hud for stone and metal color as well as size and shine.  I so admire Tiffy Vella's work and her shop at the fair is just glorious.
Ingenue has also released the darling Greta dress for Vintage Fair.  It is mesh and comes in standard sizes.  There are some adorable dotted versions as well as a variety of prints. I love the texture of the songbird version as it is soooo retro and fun.  The shoes are the fabulous Cleaver heels from :{MV}:, which is a store that is new to me.  Lots of yummy shoes there (Cherelle)!
Tuty's, another store that is new to me, has some fantastic Vintage hair.  I probably should have worn a lighter hair color against the dark wall but trust me, it is definitely worth a demo.  The style I'm wearing, Romantic, is a lovely representation of 40's hair and I love how full use of the hair base is used to enhance the style.  The jewelry I'm wearing from [HANDverk], which I'm not shy about my declaration of love for, has both amazing mission style furniture and jewelry sets, created by partners and design team of Daphne Klossovsky and Tobias Convair.  The Mucha Necklace does not show up well in this flat picture and it's so gorgeous I will show it again but its delicate and distinct like the work of it's namesake, Czeck painter and decorative artist, Alphonse Mucha. The skin I'm wearing in all the photos is from Aeva, and is called Jaci~2 and I've worn it for a few posts lately because I love it so much.  Aeva is the new brand by Heartsick creator, Amesha Jewell, and I love the clear face with bright lipstick and perfectly tilted cat-eyes

Vintage Fair runs thru August 29th.  It's really worth a good walkthrough or five because there is so much to see.  The slurls for everything I'm wearing ala Vintage Fair can be found at the Chic Management site.  Non-VF items will note slurl to the main store.

Vintage Fair: Faster, Pussycat

I have a teenage son; a pimply, awkward, lately frustrating child that is really pushing the limits of my patience lately.  To say he is distracting is to be gentle and by late evening, when I'm usually on SL and blogging I have been a complete zombie.  Vintage Fair has become my favorite event of the year and provides me with a very pleasant distraction from teenage angst.  Styling ala retro is a treat.  I've always been fascinated by Varga girls and high fashion models like Suzy Parker and her sister, Dorian Leigh as well as Dovima for their haughty glamour.
I am head-to-toe Vintage Fair for these photos and the fair is 3 sims of awesome.  Faster Pussycat always puts a very sexy spin on their clothing and their offerings for the fair do not fail in that regard.  Honey Bender, head designer for the brand, loves burlesque and the lingerie I am wearing reflects that. The top is sculpted (and modifiable) and the highwaisted panties are adorned with sweet little bows.  I'm not one to be accessory heavy and the shiny Bettie pumps from :{MV}: and Addiction's delicate Beloved set were all I needed to complete the look.  The Sol ring is one of many gorgeous jewelry offerings from [HANDverk] and I will be showing more in another post.
It amazes me how a skin can completely change your look.  Anges Finney's Muse skin for the fair is so glamorous, with rich bee-sting lips, strong brows and extreme cat-eye liner that is perfect for retro looks.  It's a different look for me and I like it!  Wasabi Pills has 3 new hairs at Vintage Fair, including one for the guys.  My hair, Veronica, is reminiscent of the 1940's film icon, Veronica Lake's, peek-a-boo hairstyle.  It is mesh and comes complete with hair bases and a version for those of you that are well endowed.

Vintage Fair runs through most of August.  The Chic Management website has a complete list of stores and their slurls at the fair and you can tp to them directly once you've landed at a landing point.

Vintage Fair 2012: The Scoop

Wow!  Vintage Fair starts in one day and it's bigger than ever.  Hang on a sec and I will get to ALL the info, links and other information you are going to need to be armed and ready.  Mesh is a big deal at the fair.  Last year mesh was just in it's early stages and I was one of those poor souls who could not operate on a viewer that supported mesh.  I'm still stuck with my old computer but thanks to updates I'm good to go. Sadly, my inventory might just throw up since I have no time to sort but sometimes sacrifices must be made.  I have become a mesh nut, especially it's ability to move with you.  The freaking adorable mesh dress from coldLogic is one of my favorite outfits at the fair.  The details are simple yet perfect with it's sweet little pointed flat collar to the perfect placement of the dropped belt between the waist and hips. You can see the light texture details in the photo below to see how much consideration goes into the dress.  It's these kinds of details that make an outfit one that is worn again and again.  It was perfect for my high school look but also can easily go stylishly mod.
The Vintage Fair is not just clothes, though clothes there are in abundance.  I've been trying to sort my review items into folders and I keep having to make new ones.  I love Aeva's Phoebe skin. It's a nice combination of innocence yet as a strength to it that gives it character.  It comes with all the usual bells and whistles that Amesha Jewell (who also owns Heartsick) always generously provides, like teeth, a complete set of hair bases, a shape (not worn), boob bouncer, freckles and lots of cleavage options.  Wasabi Pills made this perfect ponytail for August's FaMESHED event.  Sylvie, immensely versatile, is rigged mesh but I had no problem with fitting, even around the ears.  It see it as an inventory staple.
One of the cutest props at the fair is nani's hanging at the diner item.  Weighing in at only 2 prims, it has  4 cute poses, all of which are xyz adjustable.

OK, now scoop.  Vintage Fair 2012, sponsored by Chic Management, makes this the fair's second year.  This year features pre-1920's to the 1980's and each designer has provided new and exclusive releases. I love it so much I practically skipped down the streets of the stylish mesh build made by Cory Edo of Trompe Loeil.  The fair will run from August 4th - August 29, so there is lots of time to shop.  The 3 sim event is intelligently planned so that it snakes along, so no getting lost or missing a shop if you start at one end and work your way to the other.  The link above will give you maps, slurls that take you directly to each and every store and if you touch the map it will magnify the information.  Event sponsor stores are highlighted in yellow.  Those stores are Aura, Belleza, Cheeky Pea, coldLogic, Gizza Creations, Indyra Originals, PurpleMoon Creations, oOo Studio and Trompe Loeil.  Once you've shopped til you've dropped join the HUGE flickr competition with flipping amazing prizes.  That link will give you all the information about the flickr group and insane prizes.  See you at the fair!

Last Hurrah: Chic2

Chic2 will be ending on the 24th.   Now is a great time to hit it one last time and make sure you didn't miss anything!  RL has been jam-packed and SL is about as hectic as it's ever been.  I'm sure many of you can empathize -- sometimes it's rather impossible to get a few free minutes to accomplish the tasks you intended to do when you logged in.   My friends, Lynndia and Zazzy, visited me to show off their new avatars, so here we are in a family portrait.  I was completely amazed by the new mesh deer avatar by Water Horse and the beagle by Happy Mood is about as cute as it can be.
Most of the items in the photos can be found at Chic2.  I adore BENT's Country Chic Barn prop.  There are 10 built in animations, all adjustable.  I could have goofed around with this prop all day.  I loved JustB when the store had an inworld presence and I've been thrilled to see her work again at recent CHIC Management events.  The new velvet pants are available in standard sizes and hopefully, she will add them to her Marketplace collection after the end of the event. [A]renesmee is a new store to me and her adorable mesh vests added a nice touch of casual chic.  In the photo just above, is Zenith's mesh maxi dress in an interesting brocade.  The prim belt attaches separately so you can adjust the placement to your shape. Chloe has some adorable HoneyComb jewelry at Chic2 and will be releasing a full line at Vintage Fair. I look forward to it.  Wasabi Pills released Anais 2 for Chic 2 and is unponied version of one of my all-time favorite releases from her!
Izzie Button is one of those designers that can do about anything.  Her beautiful Anne dresses for Chic2 are available in 6 soft pastels that are so perfect for warm summer days. Pomme d' Amour's Birds & Bees hair for Chic2 has a jauntily tipped fedora in happy tropical colors so I had to add the Parrot Necklace from [trs] that is exclusively available at the Black Market.  The skin in all the photos is from Essences and also available at Chic2.  The new Rowena skin is available in 5 tones and includes tattoo'd cleavage, freckles, moles and eyelashes.  Happy Birthday CHIC, one last time!

Almost everything I am wearing is available exclusively at the CHIC2 event which ends on the 24th.  Most items will likely be released at the creator's main store after the event ends, though the pricing could vary.  I am not going to note each item individually as I just noted it above in the text.
Non-CHIC2 items are:

Tea Leaves

Wow! It's been a week since I've been back from the Dandy's and I've barely had a decent chance to sit down and blog, so I'm hopelessly behind.  Most of this week had stunningly perfect early summer days to be outside or working on the house with all the windows open, so I took advantage before the muggy summer set in.  I've wanted to talk about Cory Edo of Trompe Loeil's NYC66 skyhome that is available this month at Collabor88.  I am a huge Mad Men fan and loved Don's Park Avenue apartment from the moment I saw it and am so thrilled to see it replicated for us in SL.  I make no secret of my love for all things mid-century modern and this is a perfect setting.  The fact that the skybox is partially furnished in fully animated furnishings is a bonus.  The apartment is modifyable and I did a bit of messing around with the original to show you.  I switched out the living room seating with different colors that you can pick up at C88 for 88 Lindens each and I easily altered the tint of the carpet.  There are 9 photo frames throughout the build for you to drop in your own photos.  The skybox is also copyable so you can rez it over and over again when you want to start fresh.
Chic2 continues for another week and is chocked full of great items that have been made new for the event.  I thought that Bilo's mesh Talullah dress was perfect for my Betty Draper look.  I added CIA Designs bolero jacket to gussy it up for a day on the town.  I added [HANDverk]'s new Octopussy jewelry for an accent.  The jewelry is all mesh and is unrigged so you can resize it as you need.  It is available for the remainder of June for Stumblebum.

CHIC²: Chica Like You

I have Dandy Warhols on the brain...bad. I also have major title block.  I'm going to see the Dandy Warhols tonight and need to get on the road.  One of the songs on their Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia is Bohemian Like You.  And Purple Moon made some cute little pants sets named Chica for the CHIC2 event, hence the goofy name.  I have a big love for sailor pants so I love the button details on the pants.  The tops have a great mod print that is so popular right now.  Osakki made adorable clutch purses for the event that went perfectly with the outfits.  I can hear Nina Garcia in my head right now saying "the styling is a bit matchy" but Nina can hush for the moment because this outfit wants to be coordinated.  Outside of C2, Purple Moon is celebrating 3 years and has tons of things on discount, including jewelry, casuals, and some limited edition gowns (I got mine!) I picked up the Grant Jewelry set in a few colors for half off.  The metals are scripted for color change and you can change the brightness and size to suit look.  Pididdle make the amazing Empress Nail Rings for C2 that I am simply OBSESSED over.
Al Vulo is offering a gorgeous skin at CHIC2.  Baba has a well defined face and deep, dreamy eyes.  The skin comes in 5 tones, 3 makeup styles and options for cleavage and hairbase.  Additionally it includes a shape (not shown) and mesh lashes which is a super addition!  Both Chloe and MG made fantastic jewelry pieces for the event; the latter making the lovely Honey Drop Earrings and the former the stunning Eden Sun pendant (I approve of the name). I went on a buy-high last week and picked up 2 new styles from LeLutka.  I had seen the Athena style (lower photo) on several posts and I had been looking for a new loose updo.  I love it.  I spied the Daisy style (upper photo) while I was there and it needed to come home with me. It's messy and sexy and perfect for casual summer styles.  OK, I'm hitting the road. Even if you were the last junkie on earth (Sileny), I would not stay!

Credits:
Clothing (Purple Moon), skin (Al Vulo), jewelry (Pididdle, Chloe and MG) unless noted are all available at the CHIC2 event.  Every item at this event is new and exclusive for the duration of the event.

Happy Birthday, CHIC!

Wow! I find it hard to believe that CHIC Management has turned two years old!  I was looking at the CHIC website and they have held at least 18 events during that time, not counting the number of weekly Fashionably Late events.  Black and Blue was the first event and I remember that event.  The location was pretty small and how they have grown!  Culture Shock, which just ended was a huge event.  Chic2, began yesterday, and is back to a more intimate setting, though the number of brands represented is similar.  Each brand has been asked to create one new and exclusive (for the duration of the event) item.  The event is mesh-central and every CHIC2 item I am wearing today is mesh.  Just amazing to think mesh has only been around less than a year and how it has changed our buying habits.

Let me talk a bit about the items.  I've been trying to write this post all weekend and it was a total wash.  coldLogic has created the adorable Moody dress for CHIC2.  It comes in 3 different colors that each have their own cute print. They are perfect little summer dresses that you can dress up with a jacket or accessories of your choice.  You can see above so much attention has been given to detail.  The seaming is perfect, as are the shadows and shape.
Bebe is a new, youthful skin line from Apple May Designs that right now you can only get at Chic2.  The Soho version has subtle shadow and lip tone.  I did pop on Rozena's Kiss Kiss lip color in Bubble Gum, also available at Chic2, for a bit more color and it complemented nicely.  I've not been shy about my love of Wasabi Pills mesh and MissAllSunday Lemon has revised her Anais hair from a pulled back style to a long style in Anais 2.  As she always does with long styles, she has included both a "boobs" and regular version so that more endowed avatars don't lose their hair to their bodies. I like the "boobs" versions when I am wearing several prim layers on top, as well.
In addition to lots of wearable items there is a nice selection of decor and pose items at the event.  The poses I am using are from estetica's Chic pose set made especially for the event. Trompe Loeil has remade their topiaries into a mesh version.  The pack at the event includes several styles and can be switched from a daytime version to an evening version with twinkling lights. A planter is included in the package so you can stick them in the ground or get fancy.  What Next is offering the sweet Hampton Garden set in 3 color choices.  The sets are entirely mesh and include a coalesced set with table and four padded chairs.  A non-cushioned version is also included.  The chairs have about a billion poses for both genders and rezzes or gives you a variety of items such as a computer, brunch, magazine, pen, drinks, phone, etc.

CHIC2 runs from June 3 through the 24th.  The venue is set up in the round, similar to The Colosseum, with 3 tiers of booths.  I would suggest you simple move from the landing point and find a good place to cam.  It's a lot to take in and the selection is tremendous to have fun, go back more than once because I can guarantee you will miss something!  TP

Culture Shock: Colour Shock

One of the fashion trends that continues this summer, inside and outside SL, is color blocking.  It's nice that SL is on-trend as often it lags a bit.  Step into Culture Shock 2012 and you will see it everywhere - clothing, accessories and home decor.  My natural clothing tendencies go toward neutrals but I am enjoying this trend, especially since often the design is very clean and mod.  I am going to show you just a sample of items that I found at Culture Shock that fit this bill.  I think one of the tricks with color blocking is to choose accessories wisely so you don't end up looking like a coloring book.  I've exaggerated my looks a bit here to show you the range of items so you can find ways to add color to your look.

Sleeping Koala hit it out of the ballpark for me with the Bold Print Dress (100% donation) above. It is so mod and while the colors are bold they have been toned down just enough for me to not feel overwhelmed. It is partial mesh, which in this case means you can have a smooth mesh skirt prim or the usual one.  I actually liked the normal prim as she uses two pieces and sometimes I am too lazy to unlink (lol).  Speaking of skirt prims, nothing irritates me more than a nonmodifiable skirt prim, especially when there is not even a resizer.  Have you seen the variety of hip width and buttock size in SL? Anyways,  I laid off on the accessories as I chose Wasabi Pills Shiori (50% donation) hair as well as the Gwen skin from CIA Designs (50%) as they were both in very bold tones.   If you know me at all you know I am a huge mid-century furniture fan and if I see it I have to have it!  As soon as I saw the items from [HAND]verk I started to get the happy brain sensation I get when I see really well made high-design items.  In this photo the marshmallow sofa and starburst clock, amazing replicas of Herman Miller and Howard Miller items, are actually sold at FaMESHed, but the teaset in the style of Bauhaus designer Marianne Brandt, is at Culture Shock and is their gift to you.  Lastly, the adorable little radio from {what next} comes in 5 versions and reminds me of old Fisher Price toys, which I am an avid collector of in RL.
Apple May's new dress, Danni, is available in the Retro version exclusively at Culture Shock (50% donation). The top of the dress is mesh and comes in 4 standard sizes. I find that often even with Standard Sizing I often have to make adjustments to my shape or go up a size to get the right fit but this fit perfectly!  Please demo the dress as it is mildly revealing though I didn't notice the bit of nip until I had been stomping around in it for a day.  The dress includes clothing layers and the skirt is not mesh.  Ingenue has released new mesh boots, Jude, and the mustard color that I am wearing are a 100% donation item.  The purse is part of an adorable pose set from Sparrowtree Studio poses and includes 5 poses, poseballs and 5 purses.  The poses also work well with other purses so it's a great deal.
I adore the skin from Acide!  All of the Muriel skins are new and exclusive for Culture shock and this particular version, Violet tan, is a 50% to charity version.  Mons wonderful sparkling eyes are a 50% donation item.  I've been wearing these since I got them and I've been a die hard devotee to my other eyes for ages.  You can see a tiny glimpse of [HAND]verk's Bauhaus Face Necklace here. I am going to do another post about their designs as it's my new obsession and I will show the full set there.
Not exactly color blocked but bold in their own way are The Plastik's Katyana top (100% donation) and YS&YS's exclusive Brera CS2012 shoes (100% donation).  Both items worked perfectly with a pair of skinny jeans.  I am wearing YS&YS's CS2012 exclusive Roxanne skin (50%) donation which tones perfectly with the shoes (bonus!). It's gorgeous and I will get a better face shot soon.
Finally, alterego's cute Candy Dress (50 % donation) is all mesh and also sized perfectly with my XS shape.  The dress comes in three color blocked version and includes necklace, earrings and hair bow.  I laid off the hair bow because Wasabi Pill's Shiori hair comes in all of the usual fantastic textures.  The Brera shoes from YS&YS are available in other colors and the Gloss Fuxia pair were perfect.  I fell in love with la petite morte's Diffused Makeup and the blue was a perfect matchy matchy!
The Color Blocking Prop I used in the bottom 3 photos is from Magpie is perfect for a strong pop of color.  It contains 6 separate poses that are well placed for still shots.  The object is modifiable so you can adjust poses for your avatar. This is also at Culture Shock.

Each shop at the Culture Shock event has at least one item where a portion of the proceeds benefits Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders). I had to stop by there today and noticed they have upped the script limit to 75 so make sure you remove HUDS and items that contain a lot of scripts.  I noticed one woman repeatedly trying to get in with nearly 500 scripts on her body.  That will not cut it and I for one am thankful that this decision was made.

Credits (any items from Culture Shock will not have a slurl by them.  You can go to the Chic Management webpage and find a complete map and list of slurls for all the stores.  Once you have passed the landing point you can use those to directly TP around the sim.

Color Challenge meets Culture Shock

Late to the game as always on the Color Challenge.  I will never be first but possibly last, just like being picked in gym class.  This week's color challenge was Thistle and it was not as easy as I first imagined it to be.  It's kind of a lavenderish pink and purple is not generally my thing.  My old (2009) dress from TART (now Evale) fitted the bill just about perfectly but then I chose the remainder of items from the upcoming Culture Shock 2012 event.

Chic Management hosts some of the best events on the grid and the 2nd annual Culture Shock event aims to incorporate the cultural influences of those involved.  This event, sponsored by Modavia Productions, is also a charity event where each of the 184 stores involved must include at least one EXCLUSIVE item where at least 50% of the proceeds will benefit charity. The chosen charity is Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) for the second year.  The event opens tomorrow, 4.4, at 4 PM SLT and runs through May 26th.  It is important to note that some things have been done to create less lag and one of them concerns you.  If you have more than 50 scripts running on your avatar you will not be able to gain entrance.  Right click yourself on most viewers and you can retrieve that information.  Some scripts are more taxing than others so be aware of what you are wearing.

I always love Wasabi Pills mesh hair selection and the amazing MissAllSunday Lemon has created yet another lovely piece for Culture Shock, called Shiori.  Wasabi provides a "BOOBS" version of the hair for those of you who are endowed as well as tattoo hair-bases and a HUD to change band colors (easy to detach and that script is gone!).  The skin from YS&YS is exclusive to Culture Shock and comes with about a billion options from cleavage to brow colors to lashes and freckles.  I am wearing the teeth version and I love it.  I generally despise teethies in SL because I look ridiculous in them but this one is subtle enough to make my purist heart happy. I added the sweet lip tattoo from Redbird, which is a new store to me, from their Candied Lip pack (as well as an older Lelutka eyeshadow to get the color challenge effect).  The Shocking Eyes are new from Mons. These are a donation item and are really bright and and clear with enough dark tones to give them a nice depth.  Last but not least, I love A.S.S.'s new Decade Rings.  The rings include a hud so that you can change the texture (again detach and no scipts).  They best fit a large hand, but I like em!  Even my pose from Status was found at the event!

You can access Culture Shock 2012 beginning tomorrow, 4.4, at 4 PM SLT.  A zoomable map with a complete listing of slurs  is available so you can find your favorite stores or enjoy wandering and discover someone new to you.  The landing point is here

Suzie Q & Back to Black

Lovely Plurabelle Laszlo from Bliensen & MaiTai has released a new jewelry set called Suzie Q that I absolutely adore.  It suits my penchant for things mod and structural.  I always try and figure out what is Plurabelle's source of inspiration when she creates but this time I've not a clue and that does not leave me any less satisfied with the results.  She has made the sets in 3 color sets which I've shown in the photos.  Her inworld group, Bliensen & MaiTai, which is free to join has a pair of Suzie Q earrings in a special color, which leaves me yearning for the rest of the set in those colors.

Chic Management is returning to it's roots with the Back to Black event which launches on February 11. The event is a mental health awareness event (not charity) that is thematic.  Designers were giving categories such as Survival, Hope, Fighter and asked to create at least one new item that was inspired by the theme.  The designers have included an informational notecard that sometimes discusses their own experiences with mental health/illness and Keira bravely shared part of her own story online. I have my own stories about this issue as well as an over 25 year career in the field, which I may share if so inspired.  Right now, however, I have a lot of ground to cover because there are so many great items offered at the event.
The Back to Black event has a wide variety of products in it's offering. It is not just female clothing. There are male items, skins, poses, prefabs, furnishings that should appeal to most sensibilites.  In the credits I will note which items are part of the Back to Black event as B2B.  The location will be available when the event begins so slurls will be to the designer's main store.

Credits will be Rolling Soon

I'm so sad to say that the Vintage Fair is going to be over in 2 days.  It has been a favorite event for me and I wanted to just keep blogging it forever but then right after Thanksgiving my son got sick and now I've been sick this week with the one of the worst colds I've had in forever.  Cold is a nice word for this head splitting, body aching curse of a virus over at our house.  Even the cats are avoiding us.  But I really want to get in a few more photos of the wonderful clothing at the fair.  The fair ends on December 3rd which still gives you 2 days to shop!

Indyra Originals has some fanastic releases at fair.  Being one of the sponsor stores she has a great location on the Classic sim at the junction of North Street, Cary Grant Avenue and Rita Hayworth Close.  I love the Jessamine skirt set for the frilly blouse and special touches like the resizable skirt (no system skirt to deal with) and prim details on the botton front.  I used MADesigns Peta hair as I loved the little kewpie curly off the top (there are some amazing avant guard hairs to be seen here) and Damned 50's skin. .Phresh.'s Boule Earrings complete the look.  Jacqui said "That is such an Eden look.  You look so Bitchy!" and yes, that is what I love about it. Those vamps portrayed in old films from the era were just so bad!
Honestly, if you've been avoiding the fair because of the lag at the beginning, please take some SL time to check it out.  The designers have all worked so hard on items.  You won't be disappointed!

Ivalde: Weekend in Paris

I've not been shy to discuss how much I have adored Vintage Fair.  I've been very meh about blogging, spending more time avoiding then actually taking photos but this event has renewed my interest in SL fashion.  There has been much drama around the grid about legitimacy: whose work is original, what has value, etc.  While my ear has certainly been bent I've also felt over it.  Some of this is about trust, but the hating just brings more of the same.  I respect people's learning curve, understand there are some folks in SL that purely want to profit, others for which SL is mostly for fun/want a few L's to blow, and others that rely on SL for a living.  Within that are all kinds of levels and I'm cool with it, am happy to contribute to the SL economy, but I've also been around long enough to have a pretty good understanding of the industry and don't get ripped off too often.  Having that off my chest, Nefaria Abel from Ivalde is a truly talented woman and has had a strong SL presence for years and years.  Nef's deal is Vintage, always has been and hopefully will remain (though I adored L'Abel).  I have an enormous collection of her works and doubt I will ever eliminate them from my inventory. They are like the archives of fashion history and if I want something classic, that folder is one of the ones I hit first.  I adore the new Jamica gown that she has debuted at Vintage Fair.  The dress is what the system skirt was made for in my humble opinion.  A diaphanous prim skirt wraps around a column skirt bringing attention to a narrow waist and hiding the bubble butt that I so dislike in system skirts.   I envisioned myself as a young woman, embarking on an overseas voyage to Europe, possibly a new bride or socialite in a pre-feminist era where a lady's beauty was her most essential asset.  Thank goodness those times are past but I definitely appreciate the clothes!  This dress can stand on its own with just a touch of accessories.  The floral necklace and earrings from WTG and little bowed slingbacks from Baby Monkey complete the look.

I adored the Billie Dress for similar reasons.  Nef has taken a straight system skirt and layered it this time with tulle-like cocktail length skirt for an elegant day to evening look.  I modernized the 1920's style dress with accessories more in line with a 1950's couture look but you can go all kinds of ways with it.  The textures on this dress are almost touchable.  I am probably going back to get it in more colors.   The fantastic Audrey Necklace from Caroline's Jewelry just begged to be worn with the dress.  Caroline was inspired by the necklace worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and comes in either white or black pearls.  This is a simply stunning piece.  The hair is a gift from Plume for fairgoers.  It's a bit funky and whimsical and the roses change color.
Lots of nice skins with a retro flair have been released for Vintage Fair.  Today I featured a new skin from Boho Beauty.  Redsoledrea Gossipgirl is back with new stuff including the Sloan Skin.  She says it is perfect for redheads but I am wearing it without red hair and was very pleased with it. It comes in 4 tones.  Each pack contains 2 makeups, a cleavage option and 2 mole tattoos.  You can pick up this version at a limited release price at the fair.  Her new store, Boho & Boho Beauty, will be opening on the Chic sim over Thanksgiving weekend.  Until then, her inworld group is free to join and she will be sending out free gifts.  I look forward to more.

The Vintage Fair Goes Domestic

I seldom share personal information in SL, but I'm going to break my rule for a minute.  My husband owned a vintage clothing store as well as selling high-end midcentury modern furniture and one of the things that has always thrilled me in SL is well designed furniture and architecture.  It lights my brain up and I can practically feel it smiling, a feeling I also get when I see beautiful clothing and shoes.  I know SL is supposed to be a "social" platform but most often what turns me on are the amazing creations I see.  With that in mind, I wanted to show you some of the spectacular non-wearable items that you can find at The Vintage Fair.  This is a long post, so grab some coffee and get ready.
Let's start with What Next.  Apologies for failing to align the photos but I was dead tired by the time I got to these shots.  I  think the new Vintage TV Camera is one of the most clever new items I've seen in a really long time.  The camera is scripted with 2 operating animations; one for larger and one for smaller avatars.  The entire piece is only 11 prims and is copyable.
The Sophia Chair Set reminds me of mid-century Danish teak furniture.  The sets are available in 4 fabric options: Fawn, Grey, Mocha and Violet and have both a solid and printed pillow.  There are 12 animations (some female, some male).  Touch the pillow to review props of mugs and books that work with some of animations.  I really admire Winter Thorn of What Next for the special touches she includes in her wares.
My lovey, Jacqui, purchased The Pasadena from Funky Junk first.  I hemmed and hawed and eventually broke down.  You can purchase this marvelous California ranch in either a version with or without the garage.  The garage can actually hold a vehicle or you can hide bodies there.  I like the elongated look of the garage version though I also love how the patio on the no-garage version is so open.  I really love the upswept roof of the house which brings just the right Googie touch.  The house has fantastically garish wallpaper reminiscent of the 50's and 60's and has all kinds of cute add on's like built in shelves, an operating fireplace, porch lights, mailbox, etc.  There is a demo at Vintage Fair that you can access from the Funky Junk store there.  If you are still having problems navigating the sims you might want to look at Ulla Coronet's, Funky Junk goddess, flickr pages for more images.
Van Auster of Post is one of my favorite prim crafters in SL.  Van has elevated the use of sculpts and textures to a level that I can only dream of reaching.  Much of his work harkens Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern but the 2 exclusive sets he has made available for Vintage Flair have a color palette that  reminds me of the Arts & Crafts Movement , which emphasized craftsmanship over mass production related to the Industrial Revolution of that era. Both the Endion Station Loft set as well as the Gogebic Parlor Set can be purchased as sets or as individual pieces.  The sets offer a significant savings on fantastic pieces.  The floor pillows on the Endion set offer 2 animations as well as reading books.  The globe comes in both a scripted and unscripted version.  The scripted globe has 2 light settings, warm and cool in a gentle glow.
The Gogebic Parlor set has awesome props for a medical setting.  The salvaged medical cabinet has 3 soft lighting settings.  Jacqui and I both went "oooo" at the colors.  I completely forgot to take a photo of the amazing gaslights that are available. They come in 2 sizes and are composed of bendable brass tubing.  They also have menu scripted lighting and particals.  The Gogebic Pottery set (shown inside the cabinet) is has the rustic, handcrafted look of Arts & Crafts pottery such as Roseville, Rookwood, VanBriggle and Pewabic to name just a few.
Lisp is offering the Lolo Retro set which would find a perfect place in the Pasadena House by Funky Junk.  The Mid-Century era gave us some of our most notable designs by Charles and Ray Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Heywood-Wakefield, and George Nelson amongst hundreds of others.  It had a major presence in mainstream, middle class homes.
Popping back to the 1930's, Hanaya has several offerings for Vintage Fair.  It is so evident that Moriko Inshan, Hanaya's creator worked really hard on these items! Nana's china cabinet is modeled after her own grandmother's china cabinet and is stuffed full of fancy china and silver as well as vintage family photos.  The TV room set includes chairs with animations, a television (I modified the image on the screen), a side and TV table, and touches like an ivy plant, coasters and photograph.  If I have not bored you to tears yet this work is reminiscent of reproduction furniture of the time with themes of Chippendale, Duncan Phyfe, Sheraton, etc.
Hanaya also offers this adorable New York Bus Stop as a freebie to guests of fair.  It can sit more than one avatar and has 2 different animations.  It is subtly decorated for the holidays and I adore the little pidgeon friend that accompanies it.
I found some great items at Scrub.  Many of them were accessories but they also offer this lovely Gramofhone (sp.)  This cutie plays several different tunes from the 1930's.  Oh and the turntable moves! Big fun!
For more colorful pieces be sure to check out Zigana.  They offer bright tables, happy prayer flags and garlands, music boxes and all kinds of things that will add a nice spot of color.
Ok.. I'm tired.  Especially since my ex-wife, Whisper Despres, insisted we hold a bake sale after I shot and edited all those photos.  All while she hops around like a rabbit. Cool Beans, which I see is closing December 3rd and I've always loved to see at Fashionably Late, has this adorable, cute and whimsical Bake Sale Stand.  It sits 2 people and has really funny animations, like head on table, waiting, etc.  It's just too fun.

Credits:  These shops are scattered all around Vintage Fair.  For a map and complete list of slurls visit this page on the Chic Management blog.  The slurls on the store names are to the main stores.  You will not find these items here until possibly after the fair, though some are noted to be exclusives.
