London Calling: Leaf on the Wind and Cute Builds

Ok. First the serious stuff. One very generous and talented lady, Scarlet Chandrayaan, of Alouette, recently received word of the news nobody ever wants to hear: cancer.  And to make it seem worse, she was ready to embark on a happy chapter of her life, making a big move to live with her love, and only 26 to boot.  But SL did what SL does at it's best; dear friends of Scarlet came together and put together the Leaf on the Wind event, which is raising funds so that Scarlet can visit London, which is a biggie on her bucket list. Some folks sneer at fundraisers, but I believe in them in most cases, At some point in are life we encounter big obstacles: financially, healthwise or a significant death, and I think fundraisers in SL do 2 big things: money (obviously) and emotional support that says "somebody cares about me".  The event runs to February 1st and includes donation items, raffles and direct donations as well as a way to send a personal message to Scarlet.

Speaking of caring, darling Pixiplumb Flanagan from Baby Monkey is offering free mesh shirts (M/F) that say "Je suis Charlie", a phrase adopted by people who support freedom of expression after the recent Paris massacre where 12 people were killed at the offices of newspaper Charlie Hebdo, a far left leaning satirical weekly that pokes a stick at current affairs. If you are someone who wants to express solidarity for the victims and what they stand for, pick one up.
Somewhat prophetically, Apple Fall has made an adorable shop prefab for The Liaison Collaborative, which opens with it's new round, Classic Romance, on January 15. The build is a lightweight with a LI of 34. It has 2 working floors and the cutest trashy stairway that you see in old builds, which I am very familiar with from my dead broke and hungry years. A UV map for the sign is included for your own brand. I decided that since London is the topic of the day, that turning the build into something that might look like a building on the real Portobello Road, that runs straight through the heart of Notting Hill in the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea in West London.  The build was so much fun to decorate, that my problem was I had difficulty stopping once I got to it.

6.13.2014: Bliensen + MaiTai for The Dreaming Tree

The Dreaming Tree is a new event that is part of The Liaison Collaborative (TLC).  It is a weekend event where a group of rotating stores offer items that follow a set theme at amazingly discounted prices. The theme this week is "Atomic" and Bliensen + MaiTai is a participant this round.  I've been a fan of Bliensen + MaiTai way back to their days at Starlust (I loved Starlust) and can count on Plurabelle Laszlo's work to be unique and quirky.  She is not afraid to get a little wierd and I love that about her!  The two offerings are offered this weekend for 50% off retail price: the My Periodic System Necklaces - available for both men and women and includes both Periodically Nerdy and Periodically inspired original mesh discs using elements from the periodic table.  It is material enhanced.  The amazing Atom Heart Mother ring is adjusted for Slink Hands and includes versions for both elegant and casual hands as well as one for our normal SL grabbers. Both items are copy/mod so you can adjust, resize, whatever you need it to do to look good on you.

I just have to sidetrack for just a minute because Atom Heart Mother brings back memories of my college years.  I went to university in a rural environment and for a time lived in a house right next to a small farm that had a bunch of cows.  After an herbal adjustment I would wear my Walkman and listen to Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother and talk to the cows.  Good times.

My other duds are from the current round at Collabor88 and include new skin from Glam Affair (wish there was a fatpack option!), hair from Tableau Vivant and shirt from Maitreya.  Details in credits.

I busted Kat's Bubble

Out on a routine shopping trip the other day with my partner in crime, Kat Alderson, we landed at Monso. While I was scouting for goodies, she noticed a gacha machine that had the cutest wearable speech bubbles. Despite my trying to stay away (far away) from gacha's, I just had to look! They had several different sayings, but one was just perfect for Kat. "Yeah! I'm Famous!" If you know her at all, you'd swear this one was made for her. I, being the eternal smartass, also found one to go with it. The yin to her yang, so to speak. :D

*snickers*

Being that we both got a haul on our shopping trip that day, I figured it would be the perfect time to put those speech bubbles to good use, and flaunt our new-found goodies. Until next time! \m/

4.12.14 Ladyish

One thing I've learned to enjoy as I have gotten..ahem...older is playing up my feminine side.  If there was ever a time to indulge in this, it's now.  Two particular events this month are all about spring, Collabor88 and The Season's Story. Maitreya's Wrap Dress for Collabor88 is the ultimate lady dress with its flimsy, washed out floral pattern.  It is very body hugging and I find the lower neckline to be quite sexy to the point that I didn't want to alter it with a necklace.  Truth has a few hairs out right now that feature optional floral additions.  This style, Fleur, is available at The Season's Story, and include 4 different color flowers.  I am not good at completely playing it straight so I added the Eyebag from Pixicat, which was a store newly featured in 50 Linden Friday last week.  It is a gacha at 50L per play; I played long and hard and lucked out with one of the rare bags that includes all the colors as well as the spikes. All bags, even the commons, allow you to change the eye color and comes 3 ways: clutch, cross chest and side strap.  I loved all the shops on this little sim and enjoyed it immensely.  My pose is from an lar's Conventional Series, which is available at Depraved Nation's 100 Block Fashion Fair for 50% off!

I am going to start dating my posts because I'm tapped out of ideas lately

I hope everyone who celebrates the Christmas holiday had a safe and happy one.  I live in a cold climate and as I get older I have really come to love the beauty of winter.  The Trace at The Celestial Realm is the most gorgeously landscaped sim and it has become a favorite place for photos (you can even rez there!).

I was excited to get out of red/green clothes; it's not really a favorite combination for me, probably because my schoolteacher mother is the most festive person on the planet and had outfits and various regalia for just about any holiday. Even in SL I tend to grab black so lately I've tried to be more expansive and I'm liking the results. Azure Electricteeth of Tee*fy is someone who really knows her colors and I love the combinations she is offering at this months Collabor88.
Speaking of Collabor88, Miss Cory Edo has recently put her December release for the event out for sale and it is nothing short of a STEAL at L$ 88.  This seems to be some kind of penitence she is forcing upon herself for not being on time for once in her life as she is such a consistent and high quality creator. The Willoughby Lakehouse is a gorgeous farmhouse with touches of Gothic Revival to give it special character. It comes in 2 different colors; I'm showing the "warm" version here as I love the trim combination.
The home includes a snow add-on for the roof (that I forgot to put on) and has a control system for lighting, windows and doors.  It weighs on with a LI of 119 (10 more if you remember to add the snow).  I am a sucker for houses (though I spend my time on a platform) and this one is a definite keeper.

Snowy Solstice

Hi everyone!  So many great new releases that I need to chat about.  I dragged my pal SigiFaust over to Beetlebones to play Suetabulous' newest gachas, Artic Friends.  Insanely cheap at 50 L per play, two machines are stuffed with adorable animated animals and avatars.  These amazing creatures transform based on your animation (e.g. standing, sitting).  They are not rezzable but the prizes come in these little domes and you can edit and remove the dome if you want a rezzable version: 2 prizes in 1!  Maybe I was lucky yesterday (I wish) but I won quite a few rares.
I'm really excited about the new subscriber gift at ieQED.  The unisex Antler Paudrons have been specially textured textured in a candy cane version and include both red and green bases (they are so vivid under normal light settings).  You can also pick them up in the ieQED inworld group that is free to join until January 5, 2014.  Group benefits include 10% store credit for all in-store purchases (possibly some events) as well as 50 L store credit/monthly (coming soon) and exclusive group sales.  Wasabi Pills has been cranking out new releases again and I love the new Casey hair for a nice off-the-shoulder flowy look.  Maitreya also has new releases and I love sales and could not resist the new Stagioni Boots in the group exclusive Artichoke texture (at a reduced cost, yay)!

Lindens Go Poof

Wow! Has this been an expensive weekend in SL. The Geeks'n'Nerds event is still on, the Arcade has opened, there were 10 billion Black Friday sales but it's been fun.  My outfit is an amalgamation of those two events plus other purchase from my 5 day shopping binge.

DU! No, U!

This is how I feel when there is a Designer's United event!  Honestly, I adore this event and I have waited YEARS for it to return.  A fashionista's dream it is...highly skilled designers creating exclusive one-of-a-kind items that I treasure forever in my own special overflowing SL museum called Inventory.  This is why I can't leave SL.  Think what could happen!  The theme of the event this time is Surrealism so don't be looking for basic tube dresses here...they will not be found. Many Lindens were spread among many designers today and they deserve it because the one sad thing about exclusive is that; they can't ever sell the items again.  Today I am wearing So Many Styles Son of Man Coat, which I adore for it's tweedy vintage coat ala housedress style. Was so hard to limit myself to one!  The freakishly amazing and yet really cool shoes are from HANDverk, who really didn't need to have a theme to make weird things because that is what Daphne Klossvsky is..strange and how I love her for it. Oh also, the shoes can be purchased as a Slink med feet add-on or regular Linden feetage types.  I am wearing the regular shoes because Appy needs to come back and make all her socks for mesh feets.
Also, joy upon joy, Glam Affair released a new group gift today.  I wear GA skins almost exclusively and well the new Angelica with bright happy eyes was like so perfect for this outfit it defies belief.  I know!

The FaMESHed are Coming! The FaMESHed are Coming!

Wow! June is just about here which means it's almost summer break and my hopefully-soon-to-be-10th-grader will be officially eating me out of house and home 24/7.  It's also time for a new month of FaMESHed and I want to show you a preview from 2 of my very favorite designers.  FaMESHED made a strong start in May showcasing exclusive works from some of the best mesh creators on the grid.  The month-long event starts at 12:00 am SLT on June 1.

[HANDverk] is again offering a variety of items at the event.  Daphne Klossovsky, one of the talented members of the design team has created the elegant Beaded Leather jewelry set.  I've been watching reruns of The Tudors in my spare time and was bawling over the beheading of poor Anne Boleyn earlier this evening but I was also thinking how amazing she would look in this set.  It's a bit edgier than the jewelry worn during the age of the Reformation but it's spectacular nonetheless.  The sets are available in 5 magnificent colors as well as a gold and silver version of each.

The gorgeous skin I am wearing is from Belleza and is a special edition of the Lily V1 skin.  The skin comes with 10 limited edition makeups that can be purchased separately or in bundled packages.  The skin includes options such as hairbases and cleavage and is available in 4 skin-tones per purchase.  This set will only be available at The Skin Showcase until June 10.
Not to be out-shown is the darling Cory Edo from Trompe Loeil.  I had the pleasure of listening to Cory talk last week at Home Expo 2012 about her SL building career and the explosion of mesh.  She is such a talented creator and she is offering the Godswood Garden at FaMESHed in June.  The garden is contained within a sphere that can be rezzed as an orb or on a stand as I've shown in the smaller photo (I shot it on my work platform and you can see from the size of my photo-stands in the background how large this is).  It weighs in at only 101 prims in total and requires a 34m x 34m parcel.  I bet Anne Boleyn would have liked this, too, to get away from that wretched Henry VIII, who I am really angry with at the moment. It's perfect little woodland getaway and the sphere is scripted to fade in and out of view for easy entry.  Cory thinks of everything!

Culture Shock: Colour Shock

One of the fashion trends that continues this summer, inside and outside SL, is color blocking.  It's nice that SL is on-trend as often it lags a bit.  Step into Culture Shock 2012 and you will see it everywhere - clothing, accessories and home decor.  My natural clothing tendencies go toward neutrals but I am enjoying this trend, especially since often the design is very clean and mod.  I am going to show you just a sample of items that I found at Culture Shock that fit this bill.  I think one of the tricks with color blocking is to choose accessories wisely so you don't end up looking like a coloring book.  I've exaggerated my looks a bit here to show you the range of items so you can find ways to add color to your look.

Sleeping Koala hit it out of the ballpark for me with the Bold Print Dress (100% donation) above. It is so mod and while the colors are bold they have been toned down just enough for me to not feel overwhelmed. It is partial mesh, which in this case means you can have a smooth mesh skirt prim or the usual one.  I actually liked the normal prim as she uses two pieces and sometimes I am too lazy to unlink (lol).  Speaking of skirt prims, nothing irritates me more than a nonmodifiable skirt prim, especially when there is not even a resizer.  Have you seen the variety of hip width and buttock size in SL? Anyways,  I laid off on the accessories as I chose Wasabi Pills Shiori (50% donation) hair as well as the Gwen skin from CIA Designs (50%) as they were both in very bold tones.   If you know me at all you know I am a huge mid-century furniture fan and if I see it I have to have it!  As soon as I saw the items from [HAND]verk I started to get the happy brain sensation I get when I see really well made high-design items.  In this photo the marshmallow sofa and starburst clock, amazing replicas of Herman Miller and Howard Miller items, are actually sold at FaMESHed, but the teaset in the style of Bauhaus designer Marianne Brandt, is at Culture Shock and is their gift to you.  Lastly, the adorable little radio from {what next} comes in 5 versions and reminds me of old Fisher Price toys, which I am an avid collector of in RL.
Apple May's new dress, Danni, is available in the Retro version exclusively at Culture Shock (50% donation). The top of the dress is mesh and comes in 4 standard sizes. I find that often even with Standard Sizing I often have to make adjustments to my shape or go up a size to get the right fit but this fit perfectly!  Please demo the dress as it is mildly revealing though I didn't notice the bit of nip until I had been stomping around in it for a day.  The dress includes clothing layers and the skirt is not mesh.  Ingenue has released new mesh boots, Jude, and the mustard color that I am wearing are a 100% donation item.  The purse is part of an adorable pose set from Sparrowtree Studio poses and includes 5 poses, poseballs and 5 purses.  The poses also work well with other purses so it's a great deal.
I adore the skin from Acide!  All of the Muriel skins are new and exclusive for Culture shock and this particular version, Violet tan, is a 50% to charity version.  Mons wonderful sparkling eyes are a 50% donation item.  I've been wearing these since I got them and I've been a die hard devotee to my other eyes for ages.  You can see a tiny glimpse of [HAND]verk's Bauhaus Face Necklace here. I am going to do another post about their designs as it's my new obsession and I will show the full set there.
Not exactly color blocked but bold in their own way are The Plastik's Katyana top (100% donation) and YS&YS's exclusive Brera CS2012 shoes (100% donation).  Both items worked perfectly with a pair of skinny jeans.  I am wearing YS&YS's CS2012 exclusive Roxanne skin (50%) donation which tones perfectly with the shoes (bonus!). It's gorgeous and I will get a better face shot soon.
Finally, alterego's cute Candy Dress (50 % donation) is all mesh and also sized perfectly with my XS shape.  The dress comes in three color blocked version and includes necklace, earrings and hair bow.  I laid off the hair bow because Wasabi Pill's Shiori hair comes in all of the usual fantastic textures.  The Brera shoes from YS&YS are available in other colors and the Gloss Fuxia pair were perfect.  I fell in love with la petite morte's Diffused Makeup and the blue was a perfect matchy matchy!
The Color Blocking Prop I used in the bottom 3 photos is from Magpie is perfect for a strong pop of color.  It contains 6 separate poses that are well placed for still shots.  The object is modifiable so you can adjust poses for your avatar. This is also at Culture Shock.

Each shop at the Culture Shock event has at least one item where a portion of the proceeds benefits Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders). I had to stop by there today and noticed they have upped the script limit to 75 so make sure you remove HUDS and items that contain a lot of scripts.  I noticed one woman repeatedly trying to get in with nearly 500 scripts on her body.  That will not cut it and I for one am thankful that this decision was made.

Credits (any items from Culture Shock will not have a slurl by them.  You can go to the Chic Management webpage and find a complete map and list of slurls for all the stores.  Once you have passed the landing point you can use those to directly TP around the sim.

Color Challenge: Shuttle Grey

In RL I live in a northern climate and grey is a shade I know a lot about.  It's odd how I am drawn to it even in SL even though there are very few sims that are blustery year 'round.   The challenge for me was calling good enough alone as I have so much.  In the end I was happy with a casual look that included one of my favorite pants from Maitreya and a sweater from Baiastice.  The hair is a new style from Wasabi Pills and right now can be found at Fantasy Faire 2012.

Shoe Fair: Last Call

The 2010 Shoe Fair wraps up tomorrow, the 22nd, and I thought a nice way to end my last post on it is to showcase a few of the shoes I purchased where 100 % of the proceeds benefited Souls4Souls, which distributed shoes to people in need all over the world.  I will keep the verbiage low because I want to get back and get a few more while I can!  PS. Shoe slurls are for the appropriate Shoe Fair sim.

Nova's Stockholm City Boot in Lipstick Red wins my award for the best steal for a charity item on Shoe Fair.  While I spend way too much money on clothing (and skin, hair, etc.) in SL, those of you that know me primarily through Free*Style know that I love a bargain!  These boots are smart and sexy and let me know I'm contributing while I cop a score!

One of the winners for me for the "I really don't need these but they are so cute!" awards goes to Courtisane for Devoue Sandal in Apple.  I defy you to say these are anything less than adorable with the polka dotted fabric and chunky woven base.

Last but not least, are R2's Wainani in Black with my versatility award.  The linen wedge makes it a good shoe for most anything but your heaviest outfits and the blow on top gives it a girlish flair.   I paired it with an adorable dress from Vesna, which is a new store for me, but has adorable clothing!

Shoe Fair: Gos

Slowly crawling out of bed from the worst flu I can remember since I was a kid to carry forth with more items from The Shoe Fair.  Right now there is such an abundance of events (sales OMG) going on in SL but Shoe Fair cannot be forgotten as it benefits Souls4Souls, which gives shoes worldwide to people in need.  Gos is sponsoring one of 4 sims at the fair and has marked down 50% the sexiness that are the Dare Booties in blue at the fair.  They are customizable with 3 different tones of blue as well as Viewer 2.0 ready and easy to tint (even when you use an unusual color skin as I did).  I paired both shoe selections with items available at half off at Maitreya.  Let's not discuss how much I spent, but I had a blast :)
