It's Cozy Inside

Is it only me???  Ever since the weirdness with SL this past weekend I cannot stop freezing up or crashing.  I have deleted and reinstalled viewers, checked the health of my comp, etc. to no avail.  So I am back in catch up mode (story of my life).  Today has been a quite a bit more stable and I was able to create a sweet Christmas scene with a cozy daybed that I would love to curl upon.  I think back to our pre-mesh days and I had zero interest in holiday items.  However, I love vintage in RL and there are so many stand-outs in SL...things that evoke deep sentiments and so I indulge, if only for a brief moment.

Brr Cold

Oh, God. The Arcade! What a love/hate thing I have going on with that event.  I want it all, always, and I've basically forgotten how to blog for the last week as I have been stuffing my inventory to the gills like a squirrel stuffs acorns before winter.  I've always been an inventory hoarder since the beginning and something about having to get every single item from some sets (whether I use them is missing the point) that turns me into a Skinnerian button pusher.  Eh, but there are worse things to be in life than a bonafide SL fashion addict. I think I channeled The Blue Boy for my look today. It all just fell together perfectly once I was able to say "slow down, Eden" and start putting the look together.

I get way too long-winded in my posts, as Qopi has reminded me.  So instead of saying things twice, I will elaborate on the items in credits!

Cuprit: Villa Sirocco + Tons of Stuff!

Hi everyone!  I knew that my posts were going to get skimpy while I worked on preparations for the SL Home & Garden Expo but I never knew how much time it actually takes (sometimes 16 hrs/day).  I have a whole new level of respect for the folks that do this regularly and while I was exhausted by opening day, I also knew that I was hooked.  I loved the challenge and am looking forward to the next adrenaline high!

SL's Home & Garden Expo 7 opened this week and has 9 sims devoted to some of the best new products on the grid.  The Expo is one of several mega-events operated by Relay For Life of Second Life, which donates funds for cancer research.   I've long been a fan of eku Zhong's work for Culprit. In addition to be a Gold Sponsor at this year's Expo, Culprit has released a fabulous house, the Villa Sirocco, which is a lovely mix of Moorish and Spanish architecture.  The home features a large U-shaped room on the main floor.  There is enough division between the rooms so that they can include a kitchen or a main bedroom; there are really no restrictions.  All rooms open directly into an inner courtyard that features a reflecting pool.  

The stairway is on the exterior of the house, adding to the openness of the interior and also another spot to decorate :).

This is actually just a small corner on the lower level.  Because the house has so much area it can handle heavy furniture looks.  The ceiling is lower on the main floor but the upper level has soaring ceilings.

This photo of the study area is tan from the courtyard.  The room entries are truly fantastic.

Eku has made a few new extras for the house, like the sconces shown above and the lanterns on the stairway that really add a sweet touch to the house.

The upper rooms feature tall beamed ceilings and large windows to let in natural light. These are also very large rooms and can easily be multipurpose.

The two upper rooms are separated by a darling open patio.

/Hangs head in shame for leaving out the toilet!  I had a lot of fun making the other upper room into a bathroom, Trompe Loeil has a lovely set at FaMESHed this month so thanks to Cory Edo for all her hard work on it!

Almost all of the items I've shown in the rooms are available right now at several of the current rounds of several fantastic events.  They include the Home & Garden Expo, The Liaison Collaborative, The Men's Dept., Collabor88, FaMESHEd and The Arcade, all mesh and with amazingly low impact so that you can fill up this grand house and still have room for a garden.

6.4.2014: Me & my JJ

If anyone noticed, I kind of did fall off the face of the planet there for a bit.  I have been sicker than I have been in years and am completing my first round of Cipro and starting to feel like myself again.  I apologize in the delays in blogging...and I was starting to get on a roll there.

This round of The Arcade is interesting; there are very few clothing items (I guess accessories and decorative items are more broadly appealing as a gacha item), but I was thrilled to see that Pixicat joined with this round and has made some stunning kimonos.  I am particularly in love with the patterned ones, especially this Koi one.  The kimonos are actually rompers so you can wear it alone and not show off parts you would rather not share.  The dragon on my shoulder is one of the rare items from the gacha and I just adore him.

Truth's Sakura hair for The Arcade is a ton of fun. You can win the style with either two buns or one in each color hud as well as with teddy bears, flowers, kokeshi dolls or sushi.  I am wearing the light blonde with sushi which is a rare and I was thrilled how well it worked with the kimono.  The skin is also from The Arcade; Glam Affair's Liv skin. There are a ton of those to collect this time with 3 skin tones and two skin styles.

3.10.13 Fringe Society

I took some time today to wander around Kaelyn Alecto and Maxxster Resident's lovely new sim called It All Starts With A Smile. The sim is open to the public and full of all kinds of wonderful places to take photos, meet with friends or even dance.  In addition to the little village, where this photo was taken, there are rolling hills, playgrounds and wandering paths along the water.  I have been a longtime fan of Mimikri and ran to pick up some pieces to her new Milano set.  Mimikri does great things with textures and the snakeskin fabric on the skirt is simply delicious.  The set also includes sleeveless tops with lace overlays so it's perfect when you just want to throw something on and not worry about whether the meshes are going to fight. I just tossed on the fringy Leather Waist Bag from Zenith that is out at this month's The Men's Dept. It comes sized and in an unrigged version so you can mod it to your needs.  I broke my bank this weekend at the new Slink West sim which is devoted to SLINK friendly items, natch. Each store has at least one item at 50% off for the first week the sim is open.  I binged at Renegade, which has all it's shoes half off (OMG). I was also super impressed with Annabelle Couturier's Cannibelle stockings.  I'm wearing her new Chandelier stockings as they look funky with Renegade's Mendes boots. I can't forget the new hair release from Tableau Vivant for this months round of Collabor88.  The Low hair is a unisex hair that has a loose pony in back with a tintable band.  (sorry I didn't get a back shot, my comp decided to crash while I attempted to take a decent shot).

3.5.14: The Men's Dept. and other newnesses!

The March 2014 round of The Men's Dept. opened today. One of my favorite events, though I am not a male in SL or RL, but I have a penchant for clean lines and menswear so watching this collection come together every month is one of my joys.  Mikel Monk, the talented organizer (don't tell him I said that) of TMD, has been at this now for 2 years and he has really brought together a wonderful set of designers.

I have a few fetishes in SL.  Three of them are chairs, lighting and stuff that looks like store fixtures.  I was able to indulge them all at TMD this month with Theosophy's new Denim Trois Chairs that are available in 3 colors (I am so happy to see you back around, Trace), Oyasumi's workchair with it's awesome industrial lines (other pieces also available) and Mudhoney's Benson Chair (part of a larger set that also includes the rug and mirrors shown), which also has a clean design reminiscent of van der Rohe's Barcelona chair. BBQQ is offering the very handsome Clothing Rack V6, which has most excellent worn wood and metal textures.  Last but not least, my sweet buddy, Andel Rhiadra, of ADD Andel, makes her TMD debut with very versitile Retro Hanging Lamp, which she made all by her little marvelous self, painstakingly deciding on textures that she thought would have a masculine edge.  There is love in this stuff, I tell you.

My clothing is also pure dood but I managed to feminize it with gold touches of prettiness from Hucci and Mandala.  I have stalked Ison's clothing since forever and and am overjoyed they are participating in TMD.  Ison is offering the Leather Biker Vest (that includes the shirts, yay). It comes in many colors but my RL brother is Mr. Harley so it's de rigueur that I wear black.  Not so bad's James pants are a dream. I'm not usally a sagger but I totally dig these narrow hipped pants.  You will have to remove your phatazz to properly enjoy them. Even the Song Sublime eyes are available at TMD (I am wearing the Cold tone). Finishing off the look is Truth's new Perla hair and Glam Affair's sumptuous Aria skin, which is currently yours to win at The Arcade.  It includes a ton of appliers too, so I am all over it! Kat Valeska, blogging queen and darn great pose maker, has updated some of her poses which you can now find at her new inworld store.  Kat knows blogging and I appreciate the care she gives to stance in her poses.  No wonky hiding parts!

Catching Up

I'm so far behind on posts and there is so much to show! There are some sales that cannot be missed, like the Winter Sale at Coco that ends December 15.  Everything is half off and so I went big spender! The Men's Department, where everything there is original work, is in full swing. And Wasabi Pills has recently done 3 completely awesome hairs which I must show off.  Kira from Arcade is probably one of my all time favs from Wasabi creator, MissAllSunday Lemon. I'm a little obsessed with the widow's peak. Wish You a Manly Christmas

So, we are celebrating Christmas at my brother's house this year. My brother, Dean, is a big imposing Harley guy with the heart of a marshmallow. Generally there would be a motorcycle in the middle of the living room, but he has a new house so I'm sharing a mental image of what I hope it looks like.  Sometimes men need cozy, too.

Birding

A few more of my favorite designers from Geeks'n'Nerds as well as Shoetopia.  Shoetopia ends in a few days and right now it really is shoe heaven.  The crowds are gone and you can shop in comfort.  It really is a wonderful showcase and the build is fantastic.  Slink is introducing their new Av Enhance High Feet and has included some new shoe releases as well.  This is a great foot for uber sexy shoes and I cannot wait to see what she will release next.  Two designers that have reappeared on the scene recently are Sienia Trevellion from Lark and Fae Eriksen from Fishy Strawberry.  I have been a follower of each for years and basically rush to get my hands on any new releases from each.  Super talented women who do not cut corners.

Sneak Peek: Fantasy Gacha Carnival

The second round of The Fantasy Gacha Carnival begins on October 1st.  There will be over 80 different gacha machines and most of the items are items perfect for role play.  I spent a lot of time playing Junbug's lovely The Queen Set  (14 items) which was L$ 75 per play.  All the pieces are original mesh content and spectacular.  Tomorrow, something skimpy!

Bring on the Cool Air!

I live in Michigan, which is basically a sweaty, miserable swamp in the summer.  Today we finally hit the coolest day since early June and I am so relieved.  It put me totally in the mood for League's Etta Knit dress which is being featured at September's Collabor88.  It's so nice to see Nena Janus making some new clothes as she has such a lovely way with color...and I love heathers.  The belt is color changeable via hud and perfectly accented Ingenue's new Delia Heels, also new at this month's Collabor88.  I've never been one to minimize my love of anything that Betty Doyle of Ingenue does.  Her work is always impeccable and intricately crafted.  It is because of Betty that I finally broke down and bought Slink feet (I can be so old skool I swear).  Now my hunt is for skin appliers :)

Izzie Button installed a new gacha at her store in just the past week and I have played it to get various colors of these cute camera necklaces.  They are mesh and a song at only 40 L per play.  Auxiliary's Purrfect Headband from The Arcade works so matchy matchy with the dress and works nicely with Wasabi Pill's
Melissa Hair, also at Arcade.

I'm almost ready to shut up. I hit The Season's Story last night and was overwhelmed by the items for sale there.  u.f.o. has an two adorable gachas and I had to play until I got the adorable camera in the first shot. The poses I'm using are from Model Poses and they are sooo cute.  Each set is only 60 L each and includes both the individual poses plus a hud and loaded pose stand, which I thought was super thoughtful!

The Elephant in the Room

We've all experienced it. Now you can have your very own Elephant for your room.  Daphne Klossovky from HANDverk created these adorable elephants for The Liaison Collaborative in Summer and she is releasing them in a bunch of new colors so there is no excuse to ignore them anymore.  HANDverk VIP group members can pick up an elephant in red, blue and jade for 50% off on Thursday, September 12.  They come in 2 sizes but they are modifiable so if you want to size one say...elephant sized...and stick it in our living room, you can.  The white one on the left is a new subscriber gift and is a must-have at any yard sale.

Code Red

I've hardly had time to be online lately, but I snuck in the last few days to chat up some friends and go blow a few billion Lindens at The Arcade and then I started going to the yard sales for them and well.. I got a little obsessed.  But on to the stuff here.   Code Bastard Redgrave (or Codie, as she is also known) has owned and operated the Rouge sim for years and is now feeling the pinch of declining funds.  She is not asking anyone to save her but there will be a 90 hour party at the Rouge Lounge from Friday through Sunday, with nonstop DJ'ed music and dancing. Several designers are offering exclusive designs and I hopped over there early today to check out some of the exclusive reds that Kallisti Burns from Discord Designs made for the event, some in styles that have never been released before.

My favorite was Sydd; which is perfect as I wanted to butch up this cute mesh herringbone suit from Dew.  The suit has a slim cut and the pants have a clean higher waist and trim ankle length pants.  It's a versatile suit that can be dressed up or down.  I kept it a clean look with simple bolo from [Handverk] and added bright lips to one of the yummy Glam Affair skins that can be scored at The Arcade.

More details about the rouge sim, the party (tp here) etc can be found on Codie's flickr page.  Most of us SL oldtimers know it well and I'm happy regardless of the outcome to see it celebrated.
