Monotone Matchup

A new round of Uber started a few days and this event is turning out to be one of my favorites for sophisticated clothing.  Ison, who presents his new Celestial set at Uber, is probably hands down my favorite designer - I cannot wait to see what he releases next.  His looks are always clean lines and impeccable tailoring, which is my preferred way to dress.  The outfit consists of a shirt, skirt and necklace, all which I'm showing today.  Because of the flair at the bottom of the shirt, it should be easy to wear with slim slacks or any trim skirt and I can see the skirt looking fantastic with a riding jacket.  Both the skirt and top are available in 5 different colors.  The Celestial Neck Piece is also available in Silver or Gold and makes a gold statement.  My hair is a recent release from Truth called Ivana. It's a cross between an updo and pigtails, which makes it really versatile.

Brr Cold

Oh, God. The Arcade! What a love/hate thing I have going on with that event.  I want it all, always, and I've basically forgotten how to blog for the last week as I have been stuffing my inventory to the gills like a squirrel stuffs acorns before winter.  I've always been an inventory hoarder since the beginning and something about having to get every single item from some sets (whether I use them is missing the point) that turns me into a Skinnerian button pusher.  Eh, but there are worse things to be in life than a bonafide SL fashion addict. I think I channeled The Blue Boy for my look today. It all just fell together perfectly once I was able to say "slow down, Eden" and start putting the look together.

I get way too long-winded in my posts, as Qopi has reminded me.  So instead of saying things twice, I will elaborate on the items in credits!

Is There Still Hope?

My husband, who was the sweetest man in the world, loved birds of prey.  He always said they were so interesting and smart. He died suddenly a few years ago in November and so when I see these birds I always smile a bit as if he is sending me a message (as well as hope they don't catch any little cuties).  Consider it just a bit of my strangeness. The November round of Genre is post apocalyptic not really getting down with happy holidays, but Genre has never claimed to be mainstream.  Bliensen + MaiTai is a regular participant in the event and Plurabelle Laszlo has created a Bottle Cap mask and necklace for the event.  I first remember Bleinsen + MaiTai for a free Bottle Cap necklace in the store about a zillion years ago when I was blogging for Free*Style.  It was with that necklace that I started to love her work so I feel it is only natural that I don the new edgier set.  The necklace comes in versions for both men and women and the mask is not rigged, so I don't see why it could not be worn by a male face with a bit of improvisation.

Ison's outfit for this month's Collabor88, really fit for the look I was going for.  The bandage top is modern and deconstructed and the back details are glorious.  The side lace pants are pretty darn sweet themselves, with really outstanding work on the side details. Wasabi Pills adorable Kokoro hair for the Xiasumi Festival, which runs until the end of this month, is really quite exquisite and added enough sweetness to not leave my look seeming too harsh.

Angry because I have spent the last several days in SL attempting to get this shot and either my new graphics card is a fail or the cable provider is a lamo and not giving me a good connection. Either way, my son finally relented and let me use his laptop.  What a difference a good computer makes!
I would take the comp back but he might die. Cable doods are coming later this week and if that does not fix it it means no decent comp for me for the duration! Grr

Season's Story, which I think runs a few more days is as lovely as always and I fell hard for Eula's new Wilma hair.  I'm not a huge big hair fan and this hair is similar to my RL hair.  The delicious slip dress is from Ison's collection at Collabor88.  I love Harry Ison like a fat kid loves cake because he makes soime of the best understated, sophisticated clothes on the grid. I am obsessed with his work. Finally, Cannibelle is busy again after a summer slow down and has some adorable stocking sets at the Kawaii vs. Creepy Gacha Fair.  She has 4 styles out and I opted for one of the kawaii's for this post. I have become a huge fan of her stockings!

8.13.2014: Sometimes the Pants Wear You

I have a "thing" for fetishy types of clothes that can be worn outside of RP. Pixicat's Rouge pants/boots for We <3 Role-Play are some of the most bad-ass looking pants I've seen in awhile.  I do not know areve, who is Pixicat, but I admire her terribly. She has amazing range, her mesh is great and I usually scoop up any new releases I can find of hers.  The textures on these pants...love.  I paired it up with Le Primatif's Kimono Blouse which is at the August round of FaMESHed because I really like yani Tryce's work, too. Plus I felt going all hard edge was just too obvious a choice :)

I am wearing Flounce's new release, Lana skin, in a darker tone and also added the "Beastly" brows for an updated look. Tableau Vivant's new Persephone hair for Collabor88 is gorgeous, and the version without the crown worked perfectly. Bliensen + MaiTai is all over the place lately and Plurabelle Laszlo's Mjolnir necklace gave a nice contrast to Le Primatif's solid top.

8.8.2104 Late Summer Getaway

Summer is starting to wind down up north where I live. I notice the sun setting sooner an though we did not get a hot summer this year, the nights are definitely crisper. Summer means tourists on Lake Michigan, but even us locals are getting out for a weekend getaway before school starts and the water turns cold. Probably next weekend will actually be my getaway weekend to go up north and poke through shops looking for their clearance items :) and eating ice cream (or smoked fish, if you prefer).

The look here (if you aren't a tourist) is casual but upscale. We are a land of boaters and cottagers and if I could drag an outfit from SL for the weekend it would be this.  Pixicat, one of my new favorite brands, released the precious Key Top as one of the purchases for Enchantment that includes a "stamp card".  The premise is more or less this: instead of shopping in one place like most events, you purchase at least one "Enchantment" item from one of 20 merchants.  Then you must go to each merchant and find the stamp machine (which is adorably made by Anya Ohmai) and touch it wearing your stamp card(s).  I bought more than one item and wore all my cards at once and they all stamped at the same time.  Once your card is filled you go to the Enchantment area and pick out one prize per card.  The comfy Pine shorts are from LpD and are available in 5 colors for a steal at The Courtier's Docks.

The super roomy getaway bag is a new release from Ison that you can pick up at the new Uber event through the month of August.  It has a monthly theme and this month is Vacation.  The Maleese Striped Bag is available in 7 colors and each includes 2 hand attachments.  I particularly love Wasabi Pill's Nana hair that was recently released at Hair Fair.

Do you all remember Cupcakes - the fab store that made their own skin and clothing line?  Mimi Coral, who was the original Cupcake with her shop <3 Cupcakes was a long time favorite of mine (the dresses were adorb!), and she is back with a new store called Flounce.  As before, her skin is completely handmade and she has released several new lines.  Each line contains tat layers for lip colors, freckles, beauty marks, blush, etc. as well as various brow and cleavage options.  They are all very reasonably priced as are the appliers, sold separately but at prices cheaper than a gacha.  She even has a sign in her store that says "Is your favorite applier missing? IM Mimi Coral and I will make it for you!" Talk about Customer Service! Mimi is one in a million.

Hair Fair 2014: Ison

I could not stop blogging Hair Fair 2014 until I showed off the ISON hair.  Anyone that knows me in SL knows of my love for ISON, for its uber clean lines and lack of pretension as well as a sexy edginess that is never in your face.  I do not know who Harry Hyx of ISON uses as his muse but I want to be that woman. I think I look like good old Madge, especially when wearing another of Glam Affair's Kallisto skins from Romp and Ison's newest release, Little Black Dress, which comes in more than black. The lines, the ribbing, the structure; this dress is a work of art.

You Are Being Watched

One of the things that I love about The Men's Dept., besides the fact I think it is the premier event for male-friendly items, is that it forces me to leave my "pretty" box and play around with more androgynous looks. In RL I am not a particularly girly-girl though my one attempt in college to turn my hair into a mo-hawk resulted in my slick straight hair constantly falling limp on my shaved head.  (it was a wierd time) The current round of The Men's Dept. (TMD) ends on July 31st and it's definitely worth a visit.

Tableau Vivant has released a new unisex hair, Checker, for the event, A6D (After 6 Days), or MixMatch. It is a new concept brought to you by the folks that organized Euphoria's Limited Bazaar. Briefly, the themed event allows you to pick up exclusive, original items for 2 weeks either at the event or sometimes at the designer's main store. May of the items can be purchased at the event for a discount using a discount HUD.
The theme for this round is Chess. The hair includes 2 hairbases, a checker board pattern and another called "pawn", as well as a tintable hairbase.  Happy shopping!

Hair Fair 2014: Damselfly

Hair Fair 2014 is here!  4 sims of wonderful hair, 100's of them by new designers, runs until the 27th of July.
As in previous years Hair Fair 2014 is a charity event and all purchases give at least 15% of it's proceeds to Wigs for Kids,  has been providing Hair Replacement Systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues at no cost to children or their families for over 30 years. If you look around you will see some styles that have an even larger donation amount, some even at 100%.

The official Hair Fair blog can give you all the information you need regarding the fair.  The Hair Fair committee has done a brilliant job in creating a shopping environment that is as lag-free as possible. However, you are encouraged to strip down or even wear a full size alpha to hide your avatar. Thankfully, there is also the Hair Fair Demo Group so you can pick the styles that you must have and find their slurls on the Hair Fair blog.  There are also little "busses" you can rez and use to ambulate your way around the fair. These are located throughout the venue.

So let's talk about the hair already!  I am featuring the 3 new releases for women from Damselfy.  I must admit I have recently become quite a fan of Damselfly after seeing a gorgeous style on my friend, Kat Alderson.  The textures are superb and the hair is so realistic looking. There are a multitude of textures at 125 and are contained within a HUD so that you don't have to have a billion hairs in your inventory.

3.5.14: The Men's Dept. and other newnesses!

The March 2014 round of The Men's Dept. opened today. One of my favorite events, though I am not a male in SL or RL, but I have a penchant for clean lines and menswear so watching this collection come together every month is one of my joys.  Mikel Monk, the talented organizer (don't tell him I said that) of TMD, has been at this now for 2 years and he has really brought together a wonderful set of designers.

I have a few fetishes in SL.  Three of them are chairs, lighting and stuff that looks like store fixtures.  I was able to indulge them all at TMD this month with Theosophy's new Denim Trois Chairs that are available in 3 colors (I am so happy to see you back around, Trace), Oyasumi's workchair with it's awesome industrial lines (other pieces also available) and Mudhoney's Benson Chair (part of a larger set that also includes the rug and mirrors shown), which also has a clean design reminiscent of van der Rohe's Barcelona chair. BBQQ is offering the very handsome Clothing Rack V6, which has most excellent worn wood and metal textures.  Last but not least, my sweet buddy, Andel Rhiadra, of ADD Andel, makes her TMD debut with very versitile Retro Hanging Lamp, which she made all by her little marvelous self, painstakingly deciding on textures that she thought would have a masculine edge.  There is love in this stuff, I tell you.

My clothing is also pure dood but I managed to feminize it with gold touches of prettiness from Hucci and Mandala.  I have stalked Ison's clothing since forever and and am overjoyed they are participating in TMD.  Ison is offering the Leather Biker Vest (that includes the shirts, yay). It comes in many colors but my RL brother is Mr. Harley so it's de rigueur that I wear black.  Not so bad's James pants are a dream. I'm not usally a sagger but I totally dig these narrow hipped pants.  You will have to remove your phatazz to properly enjoy them. Even the Song Sublime eyes are available at TMD (I am wearing the Cold tone). Finishing off the look is Truth's new Perla hair and Glam Affair's sumptuous Aria skin, which is currently yours to win at The Arcade.  It includes a ton of appliers too, so I am all over it! Kat Valeska, blogging queen and darn great pose maker, has updated some of her poses which you can now find at her new inworld store.  Kat knows blogging and I appreciate the care she gives to stance in her poses.  No wonky hiding parts!

Birding

A few more of my favorite designers from Geeks'n'Nerds as well as Shoetopia.  Shoetopia ends in a few days and right now it really is shoe heaven.  The crowds are gone and you can shop in comfort.  It really is a wonderful showcase and the build is fantastic.  Slink is introducing their new Av Enhance High Feet and has included some new shoe releases as well.  This is a great foot for uber sexy shoes and I cannot wait to see what she will release next.  Two designers that have reappeared on the scene recently are Sienia Trevellion from Lark and Fae Eriksen from Fishy Strawberry.  I have been a follower of each for years and basically rush to get my hands on any new releases from each.  Super talented women who do not cut corners.

Geeks'n'Nerds: I Qualify

So, I've had fun thinking about what qualifies me as a geek or nerd.  I'm generally not one to overshare but I got to thinking about my obsession with gas pumps in SL.  If I see one, it must be mine.  In RL I'm not a car aficionado but there is just something about them that pleases me here.  Quite a few of my friends have asked me...like..."Eden, why do you have a gas pump in your house?" and I have no explanation they could understand.  It's just one of those things.

The Geeks'n'Nerds Fair is simply, fun.  It's lighthearted and makes me laugh at our human condition.  Plus the offerings are A++.  These are a few of my favorite finds!

Apples in Autumn

Hi!! This post literally took me 3 days to finish due to continual crashing when I tried to take photos. I really need a new graphics card.  Autumn is my favorite season, a time when we return to our normal routines, which I find particularly comforting.  I'm also crazy about anything that looks vintage Halloween.  The season and the holiday just go together. I could not imagine Halloween in April, ya know?

Trompe Loeil's Apple Cart release for October's The Garden at The Liaison Collaborative round made me smile. I live in an area of Michigan that is on a high glacial ridge and is perfect for orchards.  Leave the city and within minutes you are in a rolling countryside rife with farm stands, hay rides, corn mazes set against a backdrop of changing leaves. Some of the markets are massive but you can still find Ma & Pa farms with small stands like Trompe's that work on the trust system where you buy your goods and put your money in a bucket.  It hearkens back to simpler, non-electronic days. The Apple Cart is actually quite a complex product: you can simply rez it and have a cute photo prop but it also comes with all it's individual components, including an empty stand that can be used as a stall for any kind of event you choose.  The hand drawn sign has 4 messages plus a blank so you can use your own signage.  The trim and body are separately tintable for your own color options. It's a must have.  Seraphim Social is hosting it's Book Club sales event and for the next week or so you can pick up some lovely items inspired by Neil Gaiman’s Coraline.  A popular meme are the buttons that the ghost children who had them sewn in as eyes. Atelier Visconti released the sweet Other Chair for the event. The chair, which is color change through a HUD, has both individual and couples poses, all adjustable.  The assorted vintage buckets are from my collection of both old and new pieces, including years of Schadenfreude's annual Halloween Bucket (alas none this year!) and Lark's perfect buckets for Candy Fair, which is ending today.

My skin is an exclusive version of PXL's new Jade skin. I love it and it was fun to wear dark hair on Eden for a change.  I wanted to get a decent shot of one of Bliensen+MaiTai's new nail appliers for Slink Avatar Enhancement hands and feet.  Brilliant and so unique they are only one of several awesome new releases for this month's Genre event which features a Steampunk theme. Nothing is over 100 L at Genre and I see many creators there that I don't normally see at other events. I've become a huge fan.  Lastly and I shut up, Wasabi Pills Stella hair for the Wizarding Fair is charming.  If you wish you can unlink the front braid, though I find it makes the hair!

Girl Friday

One of my all time favorite looks is the ingenue look from around the 1950s.  That was before my time but I used to love those old romance movies where the new to the big city girl is "seduced" by some more sophisticated man.  Now I sneer at the sexism of those films but I recall daydreaming about moving to a large city and living at the Barbizon Hotel. It's still one of my favorite looks to put together in SL though mesh layers aren't always cooperative with that (thank god for those times when a larger size coat works!).  Tomorrow I might be wearing a phatazz, but today you can call me Miss Priss.

FFL '12: Vaughn's - Not a Tube Dress in Sight

I love Marleen Vaughn!  She does what she loves and always has.  She listens to her muse and won't compromise to reap the profit.  And she is really funny but I can't print most of that.  I've been kind of quietly fan-girling her ever since she had her previous store, Marly's and was happy to see her take on Fashion for Life!  She has a very eclectic collection at her FFL shop on Czas. (For those of you that have not looked at any other blogs and have no clue what FFL is, I will gleefully explain at the end of the post.)  Marls made some outfits, some hair, and some nifty furniture and decor, all of which have their own retro flair.  Marleen is donating 100% of the profits from her items as FFL to Relay for Life.

Pucci in my pocket is a damn sexy hot pink catsuit topped by a sculpted jacket.  The ruffled collar and the nifty little Pucci-esque scarf give it a great cosmopolitain flair that is fun to dress up with acessories like a great pair of sunglasses.

Marls also made the divatastic Swan Song hair, which comes in 4 basic shades and includes matching hair bases.  The Zarah earrings are from Bliensen + MaiTai and are also at FFL.  I will have to do my major homage to Plurabelle's offerings at the fair in a post real soon.

When Marleen dropped her FFL items on me and I saw a folder called "Floral Arrangement" I originally thought WTF because it just didn't seem very Marleen-ish to do a vase with flowers.  How foolish of me as her version of it is a mod long dress.  The shirt part is shown here with just one layer since this is high fashion, you know, but for a modest look just wear more layers and nobody will shun you.  In the background is the Atomic Bar and a robot toy that is part of a toy set or the Atomic Living set.  The bar and the stool cushions are color change as are complimenting pieces in the other parts of the set.  The bar is animated for bar tending or seating.

Marleen's True Grit hair is just wierd enough for me to LOVE it.  Like Swan Song, all four colors are included as well as hair bases.  For some reason I want to pretend I am Mrs. Robinson and play cougar when I wear it.
